Warm: Lucent V.92 Modem $12.56 at CompGeeks

I orderd this modem to replace a pctel. I installed this modem and I can no longer get a connection.
I am running Windows 98se and my isp is Highstream.net.
The modem reports as functioning, it dials my isp and rings,
but it does not connect.
My isa us robotics in my other computer connects with no problem.
Any help would be appreciated.

It's Back in stock... Hopefully I'll be able to get on line with XP. XP sees the POS Conexant , and it's supposedly working, but it doesn't dial, even with the alleged XP drivers I downloaded.

I ordered 2 and I am RMAing 2 of them. Both modems are dead in the water. One would dial and connect but the instant I surf, it disconnects. POS!!! The other one, I cannot even communicate with under Control Panel->Modem->More Information. Needless to say, it doesn't even dial out. Bastards compgeeks won't return my money on the shipping though just the product. WTF?! I paid for the shipping and now I have to pay for shipping back. Those Bs! I had an okay experience with them before but this sucks.

I too bought this to replace my PCTel. So far it works just the same. It connects at 46.6 with the generic 6.00 driver. For those people who can't get it to work at all you might want to download the 6.00 driver here. Scroll down to the bottom of the page.

Still looking for a new driver though...

Another cheap alternative that I use is a PCI Intel Hardware modem found frequently on fleabay (or at www.justmodem.com if you don't wanna wait) for ~$15-$18 shipped. I use the w2k drivers on XP and NO problems.

I figured out how to download the 8.20 drivers from Windows Update. However, there's no .inf file. WTF? If you want to try it before sending your modem back, here's how:

In Windows update, click on "Personalize Windows Update." Then check the box by "Display the link to the Windows Update Catalog under See Also." Click the "Save Settings" button. Now when Windows Update comes up there is a new "Windows Update Catalog" option under "See Also." In the Windows Update Catalog, click modems, put in Agere, your OS and it will bring up a list of modem drivers. I downloaded several but I can't figure out what to do with them because they don't have the .inf file that Windows looks for when it tries to install modem drivers. I tried extracting the files to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers but had no luck there either.:frown:

How are the Diamond Supra SST modems?
They are v.92, i just got one today for a friend which his crapped out.
Paid $10.50 + $7 to ship ground from Compuvest.
Thing is I cant install it till this weekend.
Good buy?

Not all lucent based modems are created equal: out of 5 modems I had, 1 was a piece of $*%*)*#% crap.

Anyone know what kinda of modem one would need to dial out from computer to telephone and talk via microphone (and also play sounds from the sound card)??

I've had a modem like this before, and currently my modem supposedly is "voice" but i don't know if that is the feature i'm looking for. Anyone have any suggestions?
