Buy these babies direct from Klipsch.
Not sure if these are worth the purchase price of 299.99 or should wait till they get to the open market.
I would appreciate the input of follow knowledgeable speaker owners, especially ProMedia owners.

Klipsch ProMedia GMX D-5.1

Enjoy.

Not sure I like the new "chrome bullet" look of the speakers. The controller looks cool though.

I'm very tempted to just buy the system.
Test it personally, and if it doesn't work out, pawn it off on Fleabay.
(perhaps make a buck off overbidders)

Perhaps I'm amazingly foolish, but I've just put an order in.
I'll try to report what I can about the system.
(despite not being too good a judge at speaker system having only
owned a Cambridge DTT2500 and cheap 2-speaker Labtecs...)

Personally, I'm not sure what to make of this system, since it's not an improvement over the original 5.1. This product seems to be directed towards the 'middle-area' market (ie, non-audiophiles) but those who want 5.1 sound.. Why?

4.1 vs 5.1 vs GMX D-5.1

ProMedia 4.1
4.1 has 400W Total Power
4.1 has dual 6.5"
No Digital Decoder

ProMedia 5.1
5.1 has 500W Total Power
5.1 has dual 8"
No built in Digital Audio decoder, must get the DD-5.1

ProMedia GMX D-5.1
GMX has only 100W Total Power
GMX has a single 6.5"
Seems to have a built in Digital Audio decoder

^^ Well in terms of specs, the GMX is definately weaker then 5.1 (and the 4.1), but it has a DD Decoder (I don't believe it supports everything that DD-5.1 Addon does for the 5.1), but I haven't heard both speakers, so I can't say anything about the sound quality. I guess it all comes down to the users who decides to buy it. But if it were me, for the same price or less, I would buy the Logitech Z-680 rather then the GMX D-5.1.

True, it his less powerfull, but supposedly the system is more efficent. Therefore doesn't require as much power.

Interesting comparision - thanks. I'm going to wait for reviews first and you can't go wrong with Logitech speakers if price is an issue.

I would have easily chosen the Logitech z680s instead of taking a chance on these but
the hissing issue just seems too big to ignore.

Hopefully no major problems arise from my nosedive into this product.
I'm not one into huge wattage and bass output (having neighbors and thin walls).

Hopefully this sound system will produce enough rich and discrete sounds from both my PC w/ Audigy and PS2.

It surely looks interesting. Can't wait to read reviews on them (not that i'll ever buy them tho... already have a decent set)

My guess is that they use the same drivers, they were just going for accuracy this time. The satellites for the 4.1 and 5.1's, rated at 60 watts RMS by Klipsch, are rated at 5 watts @ 6 ohms by the manufacturer. That said, they sound more accurate and louder than the V560 satellites, which are 15 watts @ 8 ohms, down from a claimed 53W RMS. Watts aren't a very good measure of a system anyway, in addition to the fact that its standard practice to lie about output ratings.

It seems that Logitech is fixing the hissing issue.

I'm glad these came out, tho. I've been putting up with my current speakers' volume fluctuations for a couple months now...I can wait another one or two for a good comparison.

Wow! Sure looks nice!

But I think the real story is the new SWS Independent Subwoofer they are selling. It has an 8" driver and can be daisy chained upto 16 subs. I think Klipsch is banking on people buying the GMX system and then adding as many subs as needed for personal bass tates. The sub retails for $149.99 on Klipsch's site, but I am confident that we'll be able to hunt a deal for this sucker for around $100 within due time.

In fact Klispsch has a picture in the SWS subwoofer manual of 16 subs stacked in a 4x4 grid...it looks quite imposing!

Personally I wouldn't mind picking up a SWS 8" sub to go along with my current Klipsch 2.1 Promedia system for extra bass...especially if I could get it for less than $100 on a deal in the next 6-12 months or so.

i like the looks! titanium is IN. it would match my system perfectly.

and that flying saucer control pad is fly!

too bad it's an underpowered system :(

it looks like it will produce some high quality sound. Those bullet midrange speakers look like a rip off of the logitechs....... but it still has the horn tweeters.

$300 seems sortof overpriced considering that the Klipsch 4.1's retailed for $300 (the original Klipsch Promedia v.2-400s were only $250) but put out ~400 watts with good sound quality. Unless the new GMX D-5.1s can put out some serious sound at only 100 watts, I'd venture a guess that you'd be better off purchasing a set of Klipsch 5.1's and the decoder box (which does DD5.1 and DTS) or even getting one of the cheap Klipsch 4.1 deals that have been floating around the forum and the decoder box ($169.99 from Klipsch) for about the same as the GMX D-5.1's ... (The decoder box will do 4-channel downmixing for 5.1 sources)

I've owned the v.2-400s, 4.1s and I currently use the 5.1s ... And I love all of the systems. I'm sortof thinking that the GMX D-5.1s won't be on my next hitlist though.

This set is probably marketed more for console gamers and people looking for a cheap home theatre system (although HTIBs are probably about the same)...
