Pretty hot deal if you've been wanting this thing

iHome Clock Radio

Its pretty much $99.99 anywhere (Best Buy, Circuit City etc... $129.99 at Target), but they just started carrying it at Bed Bath and Beyond and if you've ever shopped there, you should have a 20% off coupon that brings the price of this puppy down to $79.99. Cheaper than Ebay.

I returned the one I bought from Best Buy - overall, its a pretty sweet.

I saw one of these in a demo, pretty decent. Saving up for the Bose Sounddock. Anyone find a good deal on Sounddock?

I've had this thing for about 3 weeks now - yes it charges pretty much everything, probably including the nano as well. It does NOT charge the shuffle... in fact it plays the shuffle simply by using 1/8" line-in adaptor to plug directly into the audio jack in the shuffle... (lame in my opinion). It has adaptors to hold the shuffle as well as accomodate iPod Minis, "thin ipods" (15-20gb) and "thick ipods" (30+gb),

Loaded with features, especially with the sleep functions and the wakeup functions. AM/FM tuner is pretty decent. My peeve - for an MSRP of $129, this thing doesn't include a remote control, but I opted to buy it from the iHome website for $19.99 shipped. Works very well, but paying almost 25% of what I paid for the clock radio... kinda pissed me off a bit.

As far as discounts on the Bose Soundock... good luck on getting that thing for under $299. True the Bose sounds pretty sweet, but for 1/4 of the price and for the AM/FM features, the iHome is a good alternative. Besides... Bose would rather burn their products then let them be discounted or enter the gray market.

Don't forget that you can also convert your cash back bonus from Discovercard to BB&B gift certs. For every $20 you get $25. Essentially you save an additional $15 off making your purchase price about $65. This is assuming you have at least $60 accrued in discover cash back.

hahaha, that thing looks like this cheap phone radio that you used to get for subscribing to TIME magazine like 15 years ago...

Anyone who has it, how is the build quality?

Its pretty solid - well worth $79 IMO

My only concern is that the backlit LCD display for the clock and the buttons is CONSTANTLY on... with no way to turn it off. Maybe something may burn out in a year or two.

Negative backlights seem to cast a lot more light in a room than a positive LED (ie: only the numbers light up).

Doesn't look like it has dual alarms - that's something I definatly need. What I don't need right now is to spend $80 on an alarm clock ;)

I found the scroll wheels to be rather difficult to use on the iHome. The resistance required to scroll made them clumsy to use, and the tactile feedback was a bit confusing. Also, the fact that the iHome had no way to control the ipod (change tracks, navigate interface) was a major drawback compared to other docking solutions on the market. Pro is that its cheap. Con is that I don't like it.

Take my advice, don't buy the Sounddock, and don't buy any of Bose's overpriced crap. If you want sound quality in an iPod dock, it won't get any better than the likes of Altec Lansing's iM3 or JBL/HK's onStage.

Read the Amazon reviews before you buy. It's a decent unit overall, but one fatal design flaw: Alarm volume is too high and you can't turn it down.

Link

I guess it bothers some people more than others.

I think Costco now carries it for $89.99 and it COMES with the remote so thats a very decent buy IMO.

People were saying that you can't control tracks on the iHome unit... which is true, but with the remote, you can change tracks, volume, and switch between AM/FM, Radio, and iPod.

B & M only? i can't find it on Costco's website.

as for BB&B, i can't find it on their website either, and every indication is that their stores are not having a sale for $80. unless their CSRs are lying. i might go down there and check in the next day or two.

I saw it in the Long Island City Costco last weekend...can't remember if it had the remote or not though...
