This may or may not be a typo as I am new to portable world. While searching for a PC card for my new lappy, found this IBM CardBus Combo at Staples Online for $6.99 (this could be a very good stuff to pad your shopping cart for using a $$ Off coupon)

Unfortunately, I can't finda manufacturer product ID. However, I found a very similar one being sold at Zones.com click on this Link to see picture.

I'm not familiar with this PC Card thing. The description says it requires

<< IBM or compatible portable PC equipped with a Type II or Type III CardBus slot. >>

Can you people expert out there enlighten me about this whole slot thing? In this case, I'd assume that a the CardBus slot is not the same as regular PC Card slot found on most laptop.

edit: not sure if this is the one Staples carries, found on IBM Site....click Link

edit2: Sorry to hear that this card is OOS in most area, I've edited the title so that it won't disappointed more people.

this is not a warm deal. this is an insanely hot deal. comparable 3com cards cost $150. and even on ebay at least $50

Great find! Unfortunately, it's out of stock. What a price difference...$1299 at zones vs. $6.99 at staples. I paid over $100 for just this card a year ago. It's a standard PCMCIA card 32-bit which should work in any standard notebook PC or PC with a type II PCMCIA slot.

It was OOS in my area as well...sigh.
Try ordering this by phone and see if they can pull it from another warehouse.

Note: a link to Zones.com page is for 10pk, I believe. Can anyone confirm a manufacturer product ID...I found two similar cards with different product id-----34L1710 vs. 08L3147

But I'm leaning toward 34L1710, I could be wrong.

Staples does NOT sell this product in the B&M. It is an Ingram Micro special order.

I'm guessing not more than one or two of these were in the warehouses. I just tried to order on the 800 line and I gave zip codes all up the east coast and into middle America (I just started firing out relatives zips from our addy book), and the CSR couldn't find even one. She thought it was fun, so she started putting in zips for HER relative, and couldn't find any that way either.

BTW, when these are out-of-stock at officedepot, their price is only 4.99 (sorry, a tired old joke I couldn't resist)...

CardBus is an advanced type of PC Card. It's supposed to offer faster throughput. All details on whatis.com.

This really looks like the Cardbus Modem/Ethernet combo that Xircom used to make. The connectors have the exact same shape.

So it's still available in some area?
