If you don't want to take your chances with this company or a possibly OEM drive, Staples has a Cendyne 4x DVD+R for $189.94 with a $30 rebate through 7-5-2003. Use a $30 off $150 coupon and your final price will be $129.94 plus tax (free shipping). In my experience Staples rebates almost always come without a hassle. Link to Staples Cendyne drive.

For those in the know, you will probably back me up in saying that HP and Pioneer and others have proprietary components in their equipment, and any non branded such as optowrite, is a watered down, or lesser quality part. This is old school knowledge.

Actually, "old school knowledge" is that 'proprietary' does not mean 'high quality' - it means 'incompatible with other brands'.

And HP makes excellent printers, average computers, and crappy digital cameras - so I wouldn't be banking on the HP name as necessarily high quality...especially when it's not even HP that manufactures this drive.

Good luck with it, though. $135 for a DVD writer is a good price, any way you slice it.

Thanks everyone. My new HP DVD+RW is now up and running in my PC, and busting out DVDs like a champ. I know it is my first night with it, but i wouldn't trade it in anytime soon.
Like anything else, opinions may vary....but i like mine :D

Fill out a www.resellerratings.com and www.bizrate.com review so others can buy from them with confidence.

I don't know if anyone else has shopped here yet, or if anyone has been clicking around, but it looks like they just added a refurbished Xbox for $139
I already have, so no go for me, but i haven't seen any refurb xbox deals in a while. not sure if this is hot enough for it's own post. Opinions welcome

I have a 300i in my system, given to me by a friend as thanks for building him a nice system. It burns DVDs great, but I just wish they'd do something about the ugly-ass faceplate. I used to have a 10x HP CDRW that I got 2 years ago and it has the exact same ugly faceplate. At least I now have a Chieftec case with a drive bay cover I can hide it behind.
