WARM: Hi-val 24x10x40 CD-RW $60 (CompUSA)

This deal was advertised in the 3/2 flier for CompUSA. The recorder is $89.99 plus a $30 MIR.

I picked one of these up earlier and was hoping for a decent mfr. It turned out to be BTC. I went ahead and returned it but thought I'd share my findings.

There were two different boxes, each with slightly different markings. The box I got did not have the Nero sticker under the shrink wrap and was labeled with a s/n and other information on the bottom of the box.

Label:
S/N A20322734
P: 6074200030 QC-Pass
U: 70876601310 China
F.A. 21 P.O. 93
Mfr. 2002/01

The first thing to notice here is that it was made in China. If anyone picks up one of these I'd try getting the other box. The other box has the Nero sticker on it and does not have the label (or any other similar type of label) on the bottom, in fact the bottom of the other box is white with four flaps coming in to meet at the center. I checked and half the boxes were with Nero sticker and the other half without.

If that other box might be Lite-on then this deal could turn hot otherwise I'd stay away.

btw- this is my first post.

It's your first post cashola so we will be nice.
Now, tell us where.

he covered it all in the edit.
welcome

At Office Max. Plus you can use $25 off $100 coupon to make it $45 shipped total. Not bad, I thought getting my 24x Lite-on for $70 shipped was a great deal!

The Office Max version of this deal looks better. Of course, that brings us back to figuring out what other mfr we can get other than BTC?

I may try picking up one from Office Max just to see what I get. If anyone else here has bought a Hi-val drive, let us know what mfr it was and if there were any special markings on the box.
