Officemax has the Wintv Go tuner card for $49.99, minus a ten dollar instant rebate and a ten dollar mail in rebate, so $29.99 is the final cost.

TV Tuner Card

Officemax also has a $30 off $150 coupon out there, so if you wanted to buy 4 of these (for every pc in the house), it would be $40 x 4 = $160
-30 coupon
----------------
$130
- 4 ten dollar rebates (if you can do this)
----------------
$90

There might be tax too, but shipping should be free (for orders $50 or more)
Don't know if this card is any good, but for that price, it's worth a shot.

Saw something like this before; hope this is not a repost.
Enjoy!

sounds like a good deal. I, personally, am holding out for a tv tuner w/ stereo sound however.

I bought this card for a hundred bucks a couple of years ago. Works wonderfully with Win2K (the only card that officially supported win2k at the time) and I have never had a problem with it.

By the way, what is dscaler?

Hi,

I understand it can also be used as a video capture card. Any experience or information on how good this card is as a video capture tool? Specifically:

  • Can I use it to convert my analog camcorder/VCR output/t to MPEG or AVI?
  • Can it accept video and audio inputs and synchronize them on the digital output?
  • Can I use it to build a PC based digital VCR (an AnTi-vo ;) )?
  • Does it have TV-out?

How does it compare to the Dazzle Digital Video Creator 80 on sale at CC for the same price ($49 - $20 MIR)? The DVC80 is USB, not PCI and the box says it works with Win2K/ME/XP etc., I have the DVC50 and it's been nothing but pain trying to get it to work under Win2K. The last Dazzle tech support guy I spoke to finally said even though their support page indicates otherwise, the DVC50 does not support Win2K (only ME and XP). I don't want to vent on Dazzle's tech support quality here, but would appreciate any information comparing the two.

What I am looking for in this gadget is primarily the above bullets. Is there a better alternative than this card for achieving those? How much more expensive is a card supporting stereo sound?

Thanks,
gard

By the way, what is dscaler?

hacked up software for tv cards - search google for it - its a good deal better than the software haupagge includes (better image quality, more features, etc)

  • Can I use it to convert my analog camcorder/VCR output/t to MPEG or AVI?

yes, via coaxial input

  • Can it accept video and audio inputs and synchronize them on the digital output?

probably with the right software

  • Can I use it to build a PC based digital VCR (an AnTi-vo ;) )?

if you have a lot of harddrive space and, again, the right software, i dont see why it couldnt

  • Does it have TV-out?

nope, but most modern video cards have s-video out

BTW i run win xp pro and using this card with dscaler has given me no problems at all - well worth $30

Dude look up the info at www.hauppauge.com

Why on earth would you need TV-OUT from a TV Tuner card???????

I just used this thing to split my cable modem and watch TV on my computer in residence... free tv, free cable, and me happy

Well im also looking for a tv tuner with tv-out because when i dont want to use my tv to watch tv, I would use my pc. And if I want to say watch movies from my pc to my TV, i'd use the tv-out feature (also if you dont want to buy a new video card or change it).

dScaler is basically a line doubler. It takes the NTSC that we get from cable or TV and lets you double the horizontal pixels if you want......its very important for use in Home theatre apps. Dscaler only works with the connextant/brooktree chipsets. It is a great piece of free software that allows a lot of tweaking to get a perfect image for your computer or projector

Can I use it to convert my analog camcorder/VCR output/t to MPEG or AVI?

Yes, using PowerVCR or any other MPEG capture software, you can convert to MPEG. Using Virtual Dub, AVI_IO, or
any AVI capture software, capturing to AVI is also a breeze.

Can it accept video and audio inputs and synchronize them on the digital output?

I have no clue what you mean here.

Can I use it to build a PC based digital VCR (an AnTi-vo )?

Yes, you can use a program such as Snapstream (although this only captures in WMV format) which is basically software
to enable TiVo capabilities on your computer. What I prefer to use is a program called iuVCR (search for it on google, it is
not free though), to set up schedules to record and capture in uncompressed. Again, PowerVCR also allows such
capabilities.

Does it have TV-out?

no.
