Warm?: Hannspree 28" 1920x1200 LCD $249 at Comp USA

Warm? You are asking a question for which I could receive an infraction for answering honestly. All I can say is I have a hannspree monitor and it has worked fine for a long time now.

I've seen many people post "HOT" into their thread title, only to be shut down by other people here. I went the safe route lol

Recent reviews on Newegg ($270 shipped for same model) are fantastic. Hard to go wrong for 28" of 1200p deliciousness at this price.

Shipping is $12.95 to NYC, but there doesn't appear to be any tax for NY, so without accounting for NY's use tax this deal is cheaper at $263 than Newegg's price of $270, at least for NY residents.

As stated on its website, CompUSA has locations in Florida, Idaho, Texas, North Carolina, South Dakota, Georgia, and Illinois, so they'll charge the tax up front for orders to those states. Before Craig jumps in and yells at me, I'll point out that everyone should be reporting their use tax to the IRS.

Finally, in my experience, the stand and speaker both suck, but that's to be expected for the price. I use a dual-monitor stand with a VESA mount and external speakers, so neither of those negatives affect me.

i have had one of 2 fail... was after 18 months... if anyone needs parts i have 2 power supplies and the screen (got a replacement power supply and that didn't seem to be the problem, so i gave up...)... what sux is that out of warranty fixing is >=$200... you can't get new parts and have to ship to their third party... i still love the monitor...

and as i type i have a dell 2412 failing on me... yeesh...

had 2 for 3+ years, worked great. one went to my btother as I replaced with 3x1080p eyefintiy, and the other is going to my dad as its replaced by a korean 27 ips beast

Bad power will quickly kill LCD monitors.

I have a pos Westinghouse 27 that only works with hdmi if I have a VGA plugged in as well.
Should I jump on this or wait for a 1200p led?

Yes, there is tax for NY residents. It's the use tax. You don't have to pay it at time of purchase; you owe it on your income taxes.

If you'd read my entire post, you'd see that I explained that fact, in addition to anticipating your response...

Hmm, this is interesting. I am looking at the new "catleaps," which are similarly priced but offer a higher resolution. However, I only have integrated graphics currently (with plans to buy a graphics card soon). Maybe for my situation this Hannspree monitor would be good. I currently have an LG 23" monitor.

Doing general computer stuff and watching TV on this monitor would be great I would imagine. Kind of confused right now but this does look tempting. This monitor would be bought from a US retailer rather than from Korea so in case of returning, it would be a bit easier. Also, it may have better/longer warranty as well.

Good deal. Thanks.

You're welcome!

If you are serious about PC gaming, go for the Catleap. BUT ....keep in mind that the catleap's native resolution will require a beefy video card. With this monitor, you could get by with a mid range ($200-$300) card and have all eye candy turned on

The LED $269.99 backlit 27" now has a $30 off coupon code(displayed on product page), expires today 7/15 bringing it down to $239.99

I'm debating buying this monitor, got a few questions:
1. How big is the performance hit over 1080p?
2. How do 1080p games/video behave/look in 1200p resolution?
