Here's a review of the ECS board for $49. They give it an Editor's Choice and it overclocks nicely.

What O/S and applications will benefit from the dual processors?

<< isn't ecs the oem of pcchips ?

i dont remember but i thought they were
>>

i honestly don't think so, none of their boards don't look the same. i've seen pc chips board in person before, and i've seen them in action, and they aren't that great in terms of features, never got a chance to play around with it in regards to stability or anything. that pc chips dually board only has 4 pci slots, why did they do that???

With regards to the Elitegroup D6VAA:
"This board just slightly differs from PC Chips M790MR in layout: Elitegroup is already one and half a year a department of the greatest motherboard manufacturer HsingTech, "famed" with its trade mark PC Chips (and some others). "

digit-life is RU based i think, if you're wondering what's up with their miserable command of the english language.

By no means am I an expert, but not too many applications use SMP. Windows 2000, Windows XP Pro, and linux are some of the operating systems that use two processor. As for programs you're mostly looking at graphic programs such as CAD, etc/

Most users won't need dual processors ...

Common applications that use dual processors (i.e no other apps running, will max out both processors) with a multiprocessor capable OS:
Quake 3
Adobe photoshop

However - if you surf, write, email, and watch a dvd while burning a cd you can easily use dual processors. At work I've got a few dual monitor, dual processor machines and they are sweet.

I like this from their description:

Don't be the last one on your block with a slow motherboard - get yours today!

I especially like my duals when explorer.exe goes wacko and uses 100% of one of my cpus. I can still do stuff. :)

And ECS was bought by PCChips a year or two ago. Many of their boards look the same. (k7sem/pc810lmr) People used to think ECS was really very crappy, until the k7s5a came out. Now they seem to like ECS, still bash PCChips. Makes no sense to me.

It's kinda funny. PC Chips has always been regarded as one of the lowest end motherboard makers by most tech savy people. PC Chips likes to build the all-in-one MBs using low end cipsets like SIS CPU, SIS video, CMI sound, PCTel modem and Davidson NIC. Now tech savy people like the SIS CPU chipset, starting to like the CMI based sound cards and sometimes even the PCTel modems.

I have two PCChips all-in-one MBs and have not had any problems with them. They are stable but definately not high performance components by any means.
