WARM: Discover Card: Get an additional 4% cash back at restaurants

A list of restaurants that accept discover is on their website. When I typed in my address (in Ann Arbor, MI), over 500 matches were found.

Aaaand ya know, it's thread crappers like you that make occasional posters like me want to continue lurking and never post the occasional deal we come across.

Just my two cents...

Discover is the only credit card accepted at Sam's Club. 😉

Also, lots of stores I go to will accept Discover. Many don't accept American Express though.

As for the deal though, be sure to read the fine print. Lots of these online cc signups don't show it all, and you won't learn the full details til you get approved for the card. Many don't give a full x%. It's a partial percentage up to certain dollar amounts that you spend... I'm not sure how this one works, but it's probably similar.

Either Rossman or I are eating in all the wrong restaurants since I've never been to one that didn't take Discover. Don't know whether I have to move up or down in quality to reach all those nonaccepters he knows. 🙂

In May and June, they had a similar promotion for all grocery purchases. It can take them awhile to credit the bonus dollars, though, which makes it hard to track. I gave up on the grocery one and just ASSUMED they got the stuff credited.

We'll have to keep an eye out for additional promotions.

RossMAN is the Grand Nagus.....he's like the Hot Deals sheriff 'round here 🙂

he was just teasing you. you'll need to grow some thicker skin to make it here 😉

thanks for the deal!

IT says 10% but if you read the fine print there are so many catches to this deal you need a lawyer to figure it out. I signed up for it 1 month ago thinking it was actually 10 percent. No. Not actually.

Sorry, but I don' see all those "catches". You sign up, eat out in a place where the resulting charge would show up on your bill under the heading Restaurants, charge it on your Discover card, and you get a cashback amount of 4% of the purchase added to your cashback bonus. This is in addition to the amount you would get for that purchase if you weren't participating in this program. The additional 4% applies to the first $600 in restaurant charges for those two months.

Hey, lighten up. Crap is part of life. I think a certain amount of it DOES belong in this forum. I check out Hot Deals threads for caveats, provisos, plusses and minuses many times before making a buying decision. It would be a bummer to go to the trouble of getting a discover card and then find out you couldn't use it in the situations you had envisioned. It's not out of line to say nobody uses it. 500 matches does not mean that the 6 restaurants you would like to attend do accept it.

Edit: It IS a good idea to do a certain amount of homework before starting a thread in this forum, as most of you know.

We know... I figured you were just teasing us with your triple-platinum Visa card or something.. I can only imagine what kind of credit limit you need for these deals... 😉

ok someone explain to me the "additional" 4% part

so if I dont sign up for this program, I already get 6% cash back when I use my card at restaurantS??

Sucks that it's only for people with the Discover Platinum or Classic Card. What about people like me with their Gold Card? Guess I'm SOL.

...except all government agencies (infact thats primarily what they ONLY accept because Discover gives them a 0% transaction fee) and every gas station and restaurant I've ever been too.

I haven't not been able to use my Discover card anywhere, and it has more rewards and lower interest (not to mention a great credit line and very good customer service) than my Mastercard(s) do. I have a Citibank VISA, I don't think I've ever used it.

I have a Gold card. When I tried to sign-up, the page said that I did not have a proper card for the deal. But, because I am not a classic or platinum holder, they automatically credited $5 to my account. Hey, it's a free $5!

Also, my wife has had a classic card for a few years, and the only restaurants where it was not accepted were in Kauai on our honeymoon. Everywhere we go in Dallas takes Discover. We haven't had any other issues at restaurants while we have been traveling. And, most of the restaurants we go to are local places, not chains.
