I guess this was more interesting than I thought. Anybody know of a place to get a good CF GPS for a reasonable price? How well do they work? Oh and I was looking at the ipaq and with only a 90 day warranty and no CF so I would have to purchase memory, I thought this was a better deal since most of the bugs seem to be worked out now.

This is the same item that was sold for $150 in May. Warm deal, but if you reallllly want an axim, it may be for you. If you want it to be a cool toy, know that this is pretty old tech (the low-end of the first-gen of their PDAs). I ended up using mine as an mp3 player, so I just sold it and got a real mp3 player :)

IMHO, calling it "pretty old tech" is a bit much. This (Axim X5 model) runs the both the 300 and 400 MHz cpu; which is within a step of the fastest offered for a PDA (the X3i model runs the updated version). Kinda like saying that a P4 3.0 GHz is "pretty old tech" because they already run at 3.2 GHz. Yes, this particular model that's on sale runs the 300 but all other hardware is the same as the 400 version. BTW, turning it into an MP3 player is the ultimate in waste. Sorry you felt that way. Add a CF wiFi card to this offer and you are as "good to go" as almost any PDA offered today; if not more so.

well you can either have the IE for pocketpc adjust to fit on your screen or make it original size and do a lot of scrolling--- viewing homepages will be exactly like you do on a desktop IE... its not too bad but i dont do it often - its better to use the pocket AIM or MSN and chat..haha

Finally got my netgear $30 wirelessCF card, put in cd, plugged in card, No setup hastle at all, instant.

Fits to screen alright, reading webpages is fine. wish there was a way to flip it 90 degrees so as in the the 3:4 like a regular monitor.

I have had one as well (400 Mhz) for about a year. Downsides - Size is a little large, navigation button can be flaky (Dell acknowledged), can be hard to find a leather case that will a accomodate a WF CF card. Upsides - Excellent screen (though I've broken the touchscreen twice due to negligence), great battery life, excellent for e-book reading, dual memory type capacity. For the money, I don't think that you can do better.

By the by, my friend has the 300 Mhz - as mentioned by others all the hardware is the same except processor and internal memory. If I had to do it over again, I'd go for the 300 Mhz at only a slight performance difference.

For cards made in Japan, look to stuff like Memorex and PNY. They're both blue colored SD cards (at least my Memorex and a friend's PNY is). And both are 128MB, working well in a Toshiba e740 and a Palm Zire71 respectively.

1) what kind of things can you do with the GPS add on?

2) I'm debating why "I" would need wireless with a pda. Yes, I have wireless at home but I also have a computer. Are there local places on the road with free wireless that having a wireless pda would be helpful?

3) can you sync your information using wireless?
