Here's the manufacturer page:
Olympus D-460 Zoom

Here's some reviews:
PCPhotoreview

Steve's Digicam

It doesn't look to be a bad camera, the reviews look promising. It has the good stuff a 3x optical zoom, 1.3 megapixel, it's small and pocket-sized, and 1.8 LCD. Bad points, only comes with an 8 MB smartmedia card, it used serial (not a big deal it always good to pick up an reader), and it comes with non-rechargeable batteries (this tends to be important because you will have to shell out extra money for batteries or rechargeable batteries because digital cameras eat batteries for breakfast), the batteries also look like they are special lithium type batteries which can be expensive to buy and it also means you have to buy the company specific rechargeable (like my Canon S10 with the $70-$100 battery kit).

I have this camera, its is great. Just make sure you order some rechargable batteries. Digital camera eat batteries like nothing. Another thing that you have to keep in mine is that this camera only support 4 or 8 meg smartmedia card. I think you can send it to olympus to have it upgrade to take a 32 meg smartmedia card for like $100 bux. I called their Customer Services and ask them besides supporting the 32 meg will it be any other upgrades and they say no. Therefore I ordered a couple more 8 meg cards instead. The 8 megs card cost about $15 bux or so each, which is still better than upgrade the camera for $100 and buy a 32meg card for another $50 and $60 bux ($100+60=Too much).
Anyway you decide.

Good Luck

I also have this camera.

It does take AA batteries, so a pack of NiMH with recharger is like $10.
It does have only serial and uses Smartmedia. It absoultely does work with at least 32mb as I use this, though I think it does up to 64mb.

I'd get a USB Smartmedia reader. My Sandisk reader is great and works with Mac, 98, 2000, and reads in Linux.

Anyway, I love it, it is easy to use, point and shoot. I bought it for my wife who is not techy and she loves it too.

As to the sandisk reader in Linux, the sddr-09 it is called works with various revisions of the 2.4 kernels. It will read in some revisions but write is not yet supported at all.

Look at sourceforge for more info.

I just did a PM with staples and got two of these cameras. Has anyone looked at the battery specs in the manual and see the negative battery terminals that are unsuitable. Maybe I am missing something here but I believe it would eliminate about every battery except for the Olympus battery packs yet the manual says you can use any AA battery except manganese.

The first CSR I talked to wouldn't PM because he said Technet America was closing these out. I thanked him and moved on to the next CSR. This time I got a lovely lady who was more than willing to bend over and take it up the a$$ for Staples. I got this camera shipped for 259.70, tax included.

Cool, I just ordered one too, the csr was really nice, it was a couple of dollars more cause they said that technetamerica was charging 10 for shipping but I wasn't about to complain about it.

i have the older version, D450. excellent camara. been good to me for past year and a half now. does eat up batteries so i recommend NiMH batteries with high mAh. i got nexcell's with a maha charger and that works well. for d/ling purposes, i bought the olympus usb smartmedia reader for about $40 from buy.com with coupons and free shipping back in the days. (i do recommend the usb reader since it may take a minute for each to d/l via serial...with usb, all 73 pics on a 32MB card can be d/l in 1-2 min)

Which is the better digicam between this Olympus D-360 or the Fuji FinePix 1400.

Is there anything better about the Fuji FinePix 1400 over the Olympus?
