Here is the Dell SB deal

Dimension 2400 desktop loaded with

Intel® Celeron® Processor at 2.4GHz with 400MHz front side bus, XP Home, FREE UPGRADE to 256MB at 333Mhz DDR SDRAM for the price of 128MB, 40GB Ultra ATA/100 5400rpm Hard drive , FREE UPGRADE to DVD DRIVE and CDRW DRIVE, Integrated Video/audio/Nic/Modem, 1 year warranty for $348 with free delivery

To configure, check on the free memory upgrade and then upgrade the Cd-rom drive to Dual Drives: FREE! 16x DVD-ROM Drive + 48x CD-RW Drive [subtract $1]

Good upgrade is the 7200rpm Hard drive for $10

This deal you will pay taxes on, but with the extra memory, and dvd drive should be a better deal after taxes.

I cannot find the "looks better" config choices anywhere, except maybe in SB but that's wo a monitor. Where is it for the mentally disableds like myself?

Thanks

Checked and it does not include a monitor. Since I would be buying for grandaughter, the package with monitor would probably be better for her. The other one, sans monitor, undoubtedly better if no monitor needed.

Thanks!

Actually you might be better off ordering it WITHOUT monitor as Staples has a 19" for $99 after jumping through a few hoops.

Probably so, but our nearest Staples is 120 miles away and my wife is too ill for me to leave her. If available online and free shipping, I may go that way. Thanks

Good points.

The Dell 17" CRT looks good, it's "midnight grey" which matches the 2400's case.

Also if you upgrade the 2400's warranty to 2 or 3 years that covers the monitor as well, no extra charge.

Yep and I have had a 19" Dell CRT crap out on me after 2 years (I think part of it was my fault, not sure).

So I had a fried 19" Dell Trinitron CRT and dreaded calling them. Called Dell's 24/7 toll free tech support, after being on hold for 35 minutes, a tech rep made me go through all the usual stuff to diagnose it. After 10 minutes he said "Sir it appears your monitor is broken" LOL. So they shipped me a brand new monitor via next day Airborne Express, I returned the broken monitor.

Cost to me?

$0

Warranty may not be worth it just for the CPU but if it covers the CPU/monitor then it's well worth it.

I have had a few Dell CRTs I have good experience with them.

The Dell Home deal is better with the monitor, if you do not need a monitor then maybe the Dell SB is a better one.
