always remember that the switching power supply in a case is EXTREMELY important!!! If the power supply has bad quality, it's not going to worth even the money...

any experience with this case (especially the power supply?) What's the brand of the case? thanks!

My one doesn't have a 110v-220v switch on the power supply but it is also a 230w power supply instead of 250w (as advertised) so you might want to get a second confirm.

BTW, BigJohn, it definately does look the same and it both come from compgeeks so I'm 99.99% sure they are the same, hehe...

Don't forget that mastercard deal mentioned elsewhere that gives you another 10% off if you go direct to compgeeks (I haven't tried that).

Nope, no 110-220v switch on the one I got last Friday and it's 250W as advertised. (BTW I live close, so pickup to save on shipping, and waiting!)

I have this case also, got it from Egghead for $29. You get what you paid for, it's of really poor quality, thin metal, sharp edges, there are no vents in the front panel, rendering that fan up front useless unless you drill some holes yourself. Might want to spend more and get something better. I built a system using this case last week, so far it's still working fine, but just not something I would want for myself.

Actually, the PSU does have a 115/230V switch...at least the one I received last week does. It's simply covered by a sticker. It is preset to 115V and then a sticker placed over it, I suppose to keep the evolutionally-challenged from mucking it up...ya know, since those who build computers from the ground up are usually completely unfamiliar with the process [sarcasm].

With regard to the build quality, no, it's nothing to get excited about. As I stated in the beginning, I ordered it to build a secondary system that I can leave alone while it performs computationally intense operations...PCB routing, video compression, etc. So in that capacity it should be sufficient.

Best regards,
Floyd

Floyd: right on... I got this case for a system that is just going to be a server so no need for anything special. For $19.99 shipped it can't be beat.

bigjon: sorry for calling you "bigjohn", hehe....

So everyone - get the case for $19.99 shipped using the egghead information in this thread.

lol cmv. Everyone calls me bigjohn - you're the first that's noticed ;) My real name is Jonathan, but I go by Jon, so that's why the 'h' was dropped.

I'm gonna order one of those cases for $19 myself, it's a piece of crap, but good enough if you're gonna build a computer for someone else :D The $29 Voltex case I mentioned earlier in this thread is a much better quality case than the compgeeks one tho.

croaking, you might wanna check out this case:

Its got 6 external 5.25" bays, a 300w (cheap) power supply, and is pretty sturdy for the price ($44us). Just got one yesterday, haven't had a chance to put anything in it, but I did take off the side panels to check out the inside - enough space to live in, if times get rough :)

So, has anyone gotten their case that they ordered through the Egghead/Onsale with the free shipping deal?

Is there any way to track them? Doesn't seem that Egghead will tell me anything more than they sent the order to compgeeks.

mosdef & Bleeding Jawa - THANK YOU! I owe you guys. Thanks especially to mosdef for posting the Antec KS282 URL at Onvia.com I just received my Antec KS282 from Onvia.com with FREE UPS ground shipping. For $60 you can't beat it. The construction is SOLID. If I had a digital camera I'd take a lot of pictures for my fellow anandtechers but alas I don't :(

Although I wonder if I should have purchased this Antec KS282 or the InWin Q500? I hope I made the right choice, and I was prepared to spend up to $150 on a case. $60 beats that by a long shot.

Now all I need is a CD-ROM ($39.95 32x from CostoCo) and a cheap $20 TEAC floppy from Fry's then I'm all setup :)

Thank You again!

Don't forget to place your VoltexPC order through eBates.com and receive a 3% rebate. It's not a super savings but $1.32 is better than lint in your pocket.

Doh, I can't believe I missed out on the free shipping, and I just ordered two days ago! How long did you guys/gals have to wait after ordering through Egghead? They state a 10 day processing time between the order date and the ship date. Do they use all 10 days? (or *gasp* more?)

tinhrdep, I found the case under the auction part of the site. Two days ago there were 10-minute auctions for it, as well as a non-auction "buy" on the same page. There were about 136 when I ordered, though I can't seem to find that anywhere on the site either now. The description contained "ATX" "Mid-tower" "250" and "new" if you want to try searching for it; there are currently some open auctions.

Bump!

Celoverclock, you said,
"sure its not the best case...but it isnt too bad of a price
id buy one...

..
..
..
maybe for my mom..
but id never give up my inwin full tower!!"

I would agree. I would not give up my In-Win Q500 for it but might would use it for a relitive.

Possum, Egghead will indeed post shipping information after the order has been processed by Computer Geeks. Unfortunately, it takes a while...an order I placed on the 14th didn't ship until the 26th. No biggie since I don't need it right away, and I'm willing to wait a little longer to save the $30 in shipping my order would have otherwise been! Hope you're not in a hurry :(

Best regards,
Floyd

Ok, suddenly it's back in the auction part of Egghead's site under Desktops, Kits and Power Supplies, then Cases. Here's a direct link to what I found:

http://www.egghead.com/category/inv/00000205/03141892.htm

98 left for immediate purchase at the moment. I have no idea what Egghead's doing to the link... :p

This case is just to put together a computer for my parents: my brother's old BH6, my Celeron 300A@504 192 megs of RAM I have sitting around. I'm just itching to get a linux box running again - something faster than the P90 I used to use for linux.
