I'm in the market for a new 19 inch monitor since my MAG 17inch DJ700 just couldn't cut it anymore with my Geforce 2 GTS. I was going to go with Sony monitors since I heard they are one of the best, but it would leave a big dent in my wallet. Since my trusty MAG has been good to me for 3 years, I thought I would see what new monitors they had. I spotted the MAG 810FD at Buy.com for $389.95. Now I'm thinking, this monitor must use a krappy tube of some sort since most 19 inch monitors are $400 - $500. On MAG's website, it posts that this model uses Sony's FD Tritron tube. It also post some pretty impressive refresh rates. Has anyone seen or used this monitor and can vouch for the image quality? I think this monitor is a pretty good deal considering Outpost.com has this monitor for $539.95. For that price, it has to be pretty impressive?

I guess I dont quite understand what you are saying. You are saying that you assume the monirot uses a crappy tube because most 19inch monitors go for 400-500$............ this leads me to believe you are implying that this monitor sells for less, yet you then say it can be had for 539$ wich is pretty expensive.. what am I missing?

thanks

These Mag monitors dont look that great for image quality I have seen them next to the KDS and Viewsonic and the Mag looks the worst out of 3.

Before buying a monitor....

Goto a B&M and LOOK and USE the monitor.

A monitor may have great reviews, but sometimes they leave out stuff you may find important.

Personal case in point: New Sony monitor with trinitron flat CRT, 3 yr old Viewsonic CRT.

Based on the specs, the Sony totally kicks viewsonics butt.....but the Viewsonic had such a better image quality it wasn't even funny....and a true BLACK background. Only gripe with the ViewSonic was that it wasn't a flatscreen...big whoop...still had less glare than the Sony.

I don't remember model#'s, but I had access to several of each...the sony's were costing about $550 each about 6 months ago as a reference.

So I would ALWAYS recommend LOOKING at the monitor before buying....buy online or B&M, but use one first...it's an investment.

Actually, it doesn't help any to go to a B&M like Bestbuy to check out monitors. Reason is that they use those video splitters to send the same image to 8 monitors at a time, so it isn't really representative of what the monitor can actually do since the image itself is so degraded. Best thing to do is look for user reviews, find people with a comparable video card and monitor setup as what you want. Either that or find a place with a generous return policy like Fry's, take it home, keep it if you like or return it if you don't.

Virtuamike you are wrong you can tell witch monitors have better picture Quality buy going to B$M. anyone who dosent go look first is pretty foolish in my book if your spending a large amount of money on one. other peoples reviews really dont mean much as everyone has a different taste for picture quality. The best way to do it is go look at B&Ms and decide what you like then order it online this will save you at least $100 if your looking at a $500 dollar monitor. theres a handfull of online venders offering free shipping and coupons.

souka, viewsonic pf790 is flat screen...paid about $390 or $395(something like that)from mercata...it actually came out to about $480, minus 20%, plus about $10-15 shipping...not exactly sure about the breakdown but i ended up getting a pretty good deal. what would i do without all these hot deal forums...?!?!!?
