Came across this at FW..didnt see anything on these boards so I thought
I would share.

Walgreens has this camera on sale for $99. Regularly $199

Takes decent pics for a starter camera.

Can be bought B&M or online.

Bump, not a bad price. This cam takes pretty nice pictures for 1.3mp from the review samples I have seen. Can also be used as a webcam/avi recorder.

Wow that is a good deal indeed. Wasn't there a thread on this camera just last weeek for around 130? It's nice and compact. Ah what to do, what to do?

ON A scale of 1 to 10

Kodak (CC one) 2.7

FUJI 101 7.5 (weighted for $99.99)

Damn good deal....

I picked one of these up today and played around with it for awhile.

Took about 40-50 pictures and the batteries are still holding out but of course
you will want to pick up rechargeable batteries and charger along with some
extra memory if you dont already have any. Always great deals on smartmedia so
not a big deal.

Actually takes great outdoors shots and good indoor shots with the right lighting.
Close up (macromedia shots) takes a little work to get right. I'd say 5 inches is about as close as you can get and still have a good picture.

Dont expect much with the 20 second movie mode, really only works good under ideal lighting conditions and is kind of grainy....plus no sound.

Software installed easy on my XP system and recognized the camera as another drive.

Havent hooked it up as pc cam yet. Will give it a try tomorrow.😉

How important is having an optical zoom on a digital cam? How would this compare to say an Canon A10?

Depends on what your gonna do with it. I was replacing a 35-70 point and shoot which was fine for portrait and still image stuff. But zooming for landscapes (you would really be surprised how much you actually do this) You will soon see why an optical zoom is superior to a digital. The clarity is quite noticable on 5X7's and 8X10's.... So as long as your just shooting snapshots IE. 4X6 stuff this camera will really shine in the 99 dollar range.

i used to have a fuji mx-1200 which is basically this camera. i have a canon s100 now. they are totally different leagues of camera, but i do miss the fuji not having autofocus lag since it was fixed focus. i hate autofocus lag it sucks.

just got back from Walgreens. THey had one left in my area (sacramento) and i snatched it. Very good deal compared to the Kodak. Well worth it. Glad i returned the Kodak one.

Advantages:

Built in lens cap
higher resolution pictures
cheaper smart media
uses only two batteries
smaller size
glass protected lcd screen

i haven't really played around with it but its a great deal. For those wondering, there should be an open box Kodak dc3200 at the South Sacramento Circuit City if anyone wants it
🙂

damn!!! so hows circuit citys return policy! i wrinkled up that foam baggie cuz i used it as a temporary case😛 damn i ordered the lense cap too

i returned my kodak at circuit city. they charged me a restocking fee but it was still worth it. Yeah i think the Sacramento stores are all out too. Looks like this one's sold out everywhere.

Checked all the Los Angeles Area stores and some in Orange County. All out of stock, the workers were telling me they have been getting 20 some calls a day regarding the cameras. I also picked up their weekly ad which shows the camera for $99 and tried to pricematch at Staples which has it for $159 but the store manager kept blowing me off. He said that they have to be in stock in order for him to PM, then he was telling me that technically Walgreens is a drug store so they arent even a competitor, and then he said that they won't PM a "sale" item and that it has to be the regular price. I just walked out of there confused. Maybe you guys will have some better luck. 🙁

P.S. btw from calling, i've noticed that most of the Walgreens in this area are the smaller drive-thru pharmacies. They dont even have a film department. There are only a handful of the larger stores around here.

restocking fee at circuit city is 15% which came out to about 9 dollars for me. Small price to pay for an upgrade to a better camera.

<< wonder when the shipments are coming in, one store said friday when did the ad come out anyways? >>

The ad was in Sundays paper, so if they are in stock before this Suday should
still be able to get it at this price.
