Fry's has a Cendyne 6x4x32x CD-RW for 69.00 with no rebate involved. I agree its not the fastest around but the cheapest on Pricewatch for a 6x4x32x drive is 82.00 for a Samsung that's an OEM plus shipping. It's been said that this drive is the Ricoh 7063A, which is found here Link. Here are the specs on the 7063A Specs. This is a retail box drive so it will have all the cables and probably some burning software. My boss bought an 8x4x32x Cendyne last year and it happened to be a Plextor. This is definitely not a Plextor but I was pointing out that Cendyne
sells other Mfg. drives, so this might be an OK deal.

Yes it can. I just did 2 conversions to 8x8x32 and they work perfect but you will have to find the right flashing program.;)
Mine were Ricoh's but your results may vary. Cendyne just repackages other companies drives.
This is a very hot deal IF you get a Ricoh drive.
I went friday morning and there were only about 10 and were out of stock by 3pm.

I woulda sold you guys a brand new hp 9150 for 90 bucks, but no...everybody is flooding egay, so I had to open it and install it on my comp. Oh well, if you guys want cheap burners, egays got a bunch of these 8x new hp burners for about 80-90 bucks.

I flashed my Cendyn/Ricoh 6x4x32 to 8x8x32. This drive reads burned CD's at 32x max. It seems to be good quality, quiet and smooth, but not as good as Plextor. See hack . I have read that with CloneCD it will burn good Safedisk 2 backups (plextor will not). Comes with Nero. It is a very good reader but only has 2 meg buffer.
BTW the Cendyn 8x8x32 is a Teac, also an excellent drive.

MrVW here. Link to my site is http://www.roundsparrow.com/Comp/Ricoh7063A/.

I have one of these 6x drives and did hack it to 8x using the 1.07 firmware program. Within 2 weeks of our site going up, Ricoh PULLED the 1.07 firmware and released 1.08 and people have reported the hack doesn't work. What you need to do is locate yourself a copy of the two files ("rw7063-17.zip" and "rw708312.zip"). The key is understanding that the RW7063A and RW7083A are really the same hardware... if you can get the RW7083A firmware (8x) to download to the RW7063A (6x) drive... you get the faster speed. The curent 1.08 firmware update program prevents people from doing this, the older releases did not prevent this...

I can't provide these files for download as they are copyrighted... but I'm sure someone out there is willing to distribute them. If you have current links to these old files, let me know! Webmaster@RoundSparrow.com

I have this drive and would like to flash it. Does anyone have a link to the right file. The old links I have found are broken already.
