I was walking through a Best Buy and saw that they had the WD Raptor for $119. Newegg has them for $150.

Searched for raptor so if this is a repost too bad.

It can't be too loud, or it wouldn't have made it onto the Silent PC Review Recommended Hard Drive List. As for performance increase, I've heard that setting one of these as your OS (boot) drive with programs, and moving your data partitions and swap drive to a secondary drive, gives excellent Windows load and program load times.

Great drive. I might go tomorrow and get one. Sure it isn't that big but the speed is incredible.

And what about these hybrid hard drives I hear about that Vista takes advantage of? Are there even any on the market?

Also, unless I'm mistaken, it should be pointed out that the $150 @ newegg is for an OEM drive. Not that it really matters to that many people but comparing retail pricing, I'm very tempted to grab up one of these. I've got one of the 150 raptor drives in my current rig and it flies. Clicks now and again when virus scanning, etc, but it really isn't that loud. Any other thoughts on this deal?

Good find OP!

These are excellent drives and this is a real good price.
If you really want to see 'em fly, put a pair in RAID0 with your OS on it. Windows loads like its sitting in RAM. 😉

i have raided 36gb 16mb cache raptors and they are remarkably quiet and are astoundingly fast. the coolers for the drivers are louder than the drives themselves 😛

i paid $105 apiece for em new mebbe 6 months ago, $120 at bb for the 74gb version is a great price!

Nice find. Picked one up this morning. Paid $170 for OEM w/$20 rebate@Egg a few months ago. $5 bonus if you write a short review at Pricegrabbers.

do they load that fast even though they're SATA 1.5gb/s?

Will i notice the speed if I am running it through one of those PNY/Netcell SCURE RAID Cards that only handle 1.5gb/s? THanks.

Great price.
I have its little 37gb brother and it's little noisy but not that bad but it's FAST!!!!!!
Wondering BB has these in stores or just on-line order only.

They have them in stores.

Put an expiring $10 reward zone card to good use so got it for $117 and change.

I read somewhere that no PC's can use more than the 1.5 currently, so that the drives that can go to 3.0 don't actually work faster.

Hehe. Most here have been there. What are the pros and cons?

The only con is that it is a pretty small amount of storage.

Yep.
I'm only gonna use it to boot OS and programs..

That's what I do. Works great. 🙂

This really is a great deal on an awesome drive. I'm really tempted to pick up another.

Oh and another thing for anybody considering this drive. The warranty is awesome. 5 years is better than you'll get on any other drives. Mine started to die a week or two ago after 3 years of hard use. WD 2nd day aired me a replacement, and I haven't even shipped them back my old drive yet. They keep your CC on file, but I needed it ASAP.
