Warm Deal: 50 PNY CD-R's for $15 at Best Buy

I don't know if this deal has been posted already, but here goes:

Best Buy has a 50-pack PNY spindle for $14.99 without any mail in rebates or anything like that. It says that they're 80 minute 12x discs, but since I've never used them I don't know if they're any good.

Has anyone here used PNY cd-r's before? Are they a decent brand, or is it best to stay away from them?

I have used several spindles of the PNY 80 minute cd-r's and they seem to be ok. Here is the info on the disc.

I have used a lot of these PNY's and have had no problems at 12x.

Ok, so you can get 50-pack pny and a 50-pack Imation CD-R's for the same price....so which do you suppose is better? I have to say that so far I haven't had any problems with any discs in my burner, but I'm just curious as to which brand would be better.

i have used 10 PNY from that spindle so far with no hiccups yet.

I burn my PNY's from the bestbuy free after rebate thanksgiving sale all the time at 12x and at 79+ minutes. Work fine. The only downside is that they do not play in my toshiba sd-1600 dvd player (memorex is the only brand that does so far).

just wondering would you be able to burn a cd that was 1-12x compatible at 16x?

Maybe but risky burning. A 16x rated cd may actually be a 4x rated cd from a year ago. It is just that they didn't have the equipment fast enough to test them. My acer burner doesn't like these cds, it likes 1 in 3 usually.

I have that exact same dvd player. I was under the impression that it couldn't read cd-r's at all. Did you do anything special to get it to read cd-r's, or is it sort of a hidden feature that the manufacturer didn't list in the specs? Could I damage the unit in any way if I stuck in a cd-r?

I've been using the PNY CD-R's for a while and they've worked great. Definitely go with them instead of the Imation's. I've also used the Imations and have had a few problems with them.

kxy: it's a program called CDRIdentifier- search for it

i bought a 50 spindle of PNY's and frankly i'd take imations over them any day. for whatever reason i've had bad luck with them (PNY's), making coasters left and right. well that was before BURNProof...
