Techdepot has the D-Link AirPlus? DI-614+/DWL-650+ Enhanced 2.4GHz Wireless Notebook Bundle for $89.95 after $30 rebate, is this a good deal?
It's said that new beta driver has been released which can make the router to 44 Mbps.

how? damn i got 3 with them, and i think they stuffed my bro too.

about the 4x yeah they have it.

Firmware Page see it says 4x support for the newest firmware.

and look here for Driver for 650+ you see 4x support.

brougth me up from around 3-4mbps (actuall throughput of 11mpbs) to around 10-12. oh yeah this is not even beta, these are official drivers.

w/o the rebate is that a good price?
signal strength is a huge priority for me...can this router answer my challenge?

by the way anyone know if the
Microsoft Home Networking Wireless Desktop Kit
is better?

i love dlink products, migrated all my stuff to it. i've had linksys, USR, proxim, crappy trendware/trendnet (don't every buy this crap), smc, and netgear products. dlink/dlink is the only one that will work in my bedroom on the bed, farthest point away from my router in my house, which is in the back room through 4 walls.

Great router and card - using them now. Warning - D-link just screwed me out of a $20 rebate.

Details? Did they just upright call you and say they decided to scratch the rebate or did you not meet the conditions? I'm sure there is more to this than you are telling. I've NEVER had a problem with a DL rebate.

ditto here for no dlink rebate...bought a DWL650+ back in january and had a 20 rebate at the time....never saw one penny from it....

I ordered this combo with the same bundle rebate about 2 months ago from TechDepot and ended up sending it back. Range for me was about 20 feet through 1 wall.

I hope everyone else gets better range that I did.

"Offer valid only at participating retailers" this was from the Office Depot deal and the rebate was directly linked from their website. I just got the card and plan on calling their 800# later today.

Sounds pretty good to me. I was shopping for a PCI wireless card and when I saw the DLink with 4X I was sold. I've got the 614+ and I'm about to upgrade the firmware.

I assume that if the router also has 4 ethernet ports you can use wired connections too, for example 2 wired and 1 wireless equals 3 total still 4 or less....🙂

well you don't have to stay under 4 connections. i think you can hook up like an outrageous number of computers. like 250 or so.

remember, a router doesn't necessarily hook up to computers, it just directs traffic. think of this product as a Router (handles traffic) an integrated Switch (4 ethernet ports you hook up to) and an Access Point (for the wireless connection) all in one.

so technically, you can add as many wireless devices you want, you won't hit the limit in a SOHO. you can also add more wired connections, by linking up another switch to the dlink. i think the dlink has autosensing ethernet ports so you wouldn't even have to use a crossover cable.

anyways, you can hook up quite a lot of computers to this device, don't worry about keeping it below 4.

about rebates, i sent out 3 (about to send out another one) a month ago, two are approved, check cut, while third is not in the system. they are going to get a phone call from me.

deeznuts - Thanks for the info on the new firmware. I've had a 614+ for about 6 months...great router, never had an issue. With new firmware, I'm getting 8-10 mbps sustained. 🙂

From the dlink techsupport page:
Note The DWL-900AP+ currently supports the 4X feature in Access Point mode only.

Does this mean that if you hardwire in any computers via the switch you can't do 4X?

edit: doh! After looking at their site, I think that their USB adapter won't do the 4X (besides having lesser range and encryption capabilities). Maybe I won't get a DLink after all... although I guess I could try mixing and matching USB adapters...?
