You're one tough cookie Ross;)
I wouldn't have it any other way :D Besides I still have a Fuji Finepix 1400, Canon PowerShot A40, Kodak POS (wife's) and Canon PowerShot S200. I don't need another digicam.

Well... there you go.. you have a perfect reason to get it RossMan, your wife has Kodak POS ! Don't you want her to get his great piece ?

A friend at work has the Canon ELPH and loves it, even though it's only 2MP. How much larger is this camera? I'm starting to think it's better to have something I can carry in my pocket. If I need real zoom functionality, I still have the SLR.

What is this digicam review website that's been mentioned? I'm ready to buy now, so I'd like to take advantage of this deal if it's really good. I don't have any way to read CF on my PCs. I can just hook up a USB cable, right? (I'm totally new to digital cameras. Sorry!)

Thanks for any help!

WOW! at this deal.

Well I guess you can't expect the prices to stay the same. I suppose it's only a matter of time before the A70 is $299 regular and the A60 is $200 regular. After all the A60 replaces the A40 and it's a year later, but has the same MSRP. Technology should force the price to go down, and it hasn't. Granted, the A60 has a few improvements over the A40, but the A40 also has a superior LCD and sharper images.

At $250 with a free 64mb card, this is the best digital camera deal in a long time.

I just bought the Sony DSC-P72 instead with a 128MB Memory Stick from Dell for $290, free shipping. I debated long and hard, but it came down to the A70's red-eye issues and the much talked about "softness" issue with the A70. Undoubtedly the A70 is a great camera, but there are other hot deals to be found on other cameras, too.

Nah, I want her to be happy ... she loves how easy the Kodak is to use and it only uses two AA's. As long as she's happy that's all that matters to me.

How much is a 256MB CF card? I'm really leaning toward this as my first digicam. I went to the store and it wasn't much bigger than the ELPH line, and the AA batteries give me lots of flexibility. Does anyone see a reason this would be a bad choice at this price?

Damn. Now I can't find the bundle or the camera on their site! I missed out on my best chance for a camera. :-(

This camera is not worth the time. It takes soft pics, even at the highest, most uncompressed resolution. However, it does have the BEST macro shots I have ever seen. I have taken over 100 pictures of my 11 month old in the last week trying to get a good picture. The only pictures that came out were the macro shots and maybe 3 other regular photos. It requires a lot of light. The video mode is awesome but you will need to mount it on a tripod as every micromove is picked up. But that is pretty much standard. I wish the regular pictures looked as good as the movie mode. I'll keep playing with it for a couple of more days and decide but it looks like I will be sticking with my HP 812.

Steve of www.steves-digicams.com didn't seem to think there were any problems with the image quality. He stated that most images came out perfect and didn't require touching up on the computer. I will be able to judge this when mine shows up today.

Reasons I got this camera:
Video out to hook up to TV
Compact Flash (which I've stockpiled a ton of with all the deals on them)
Video mode with sound
3X optical zoom
3.2 megapixels - excellent 8x10s, the largest I would ever want to print
Small size, quick startup and between shots (2 secs)
Good image quality review from Steve's website
$250

I'm upgrading from one of the first megapixel cameras, the Kodak DC210+, so I think I will be estatic about this camera.

Thanks for the input, folks. I hope you'll let us know how your experiences continue.

I've been leaning towards a Canon since I first decided I wanted a digital. I've never cared for Sony products (they all seem to fall apart on me) and the Kodak and HP in the price range seem to look like toys. Olympus and Nikon were my other two choices. With this deal gone, is there a comparable camera with 3x optical zoom at $250 or less?

Well, I went ahead and ordered it, since I need one for this summer.
I was pretty excited because my confirmation email said my order would be delivered by the 6th.
Unfortunately, that only means they are going to deliver the 64M card by then - the camera is on back order.

Anyone have any idea how long the camera will take to ship?

I assume you don't mean you ordered it just now, right? I still can't find the bundle to put in my cart.

damn it, should have ordered it when i saw it for the first time a few days ago. but i didn't want to wait for the shipping time, so i printed out the 50 off 250 and figured that i would just take it to the local store and buy them. however, the manager was not willing to take the online coupon. then i tried to order it online, only to find out that the deal is dead online.

i'll try other stores and see if other store managers are willing to take the online coupon.

At Steve's Digicams forums here is what two members had to say:

1. Hey, just wanted to say a bit about this camera. I picked it up a little over a month ago, had a trip to Hawaii, I live in Japan, and I have very little on the negetive side. I've taken lots and lots of picture and almost all of them are great. I have had a few that were out of focus, but mostly because i didn't use the flash in low light. I've found ways to get better results too. Using the shutter priority or the f-stop priority can give amazing differences. I think this camera loves freshly charged batteries too: focus problems occur only when the batteries are past half way or so. The camera has so many advantages over the other models, and the price isn't too bad. good luck!

2. I agree, when useing this camera in low light with auto setting and flash off, the camera will bring the ISO up and slow down the shutter speed. Which is what it should do, but that also means you need a very steady hand or a tripod or you will get blurry pics. Also the higher ISO will introduce noise into the pic. On film camera's with high ISO film you would get more grainy pics, which isn't always bad. But with digital you get noise which doesn't look very good. In Program and other modes you can set your ISO down to 50 and keep it there.

I will try these tips and see if it makes a difference.
