Well, I got on that last Staples deal a while back for a Cendyne [mine was an Asus], so if I can just pick up the flyer from their own rack and show it to them, it'd be great.

Thanks, got it for around $46 shipped with $10 of 50 coupon which you can find at your Favorite Website. Free next day shipping - $16 after rebate. Hope its a lite-on... how can you tell?

OK guys. Here's the deal. I went to Staples yesterday and bought thisdrive. When I got to the counter, they rung it up and sure enough the $30 rebate printed up. I asked about the additional $20 rebate listed on the website and they didn't know anything about it.

Today, Monday, I called customer service and pointed out to them that the web site says that the cost is $24.94 BEFORE a $20 rebate. They looked at the site and apologized and gave me another number to call: 1-800-3STAPLES

I called them and once again they apologized, said it was a mistake and that they would correct the website but mentioned nothing about making up for the $20. After arguing with them that this was in an e-mail that they sent me, I had already purchased, opened & installed the drive and couldn't return it, they are sending me a $20 gift card out to my house. Bottom line is I did get the drive for $4.98. For those of you who used a coupon, you will actually make money.

So, if anyone has purchased this drive, I suggest calling the 800 number I listed and speak to them. It really wasn't much of a battle. They aren't going to lose a customer to $20. The trick will be to get to them before they change the website.

Good Luck! Please keep this thread running by posting your reslutl. I'd be curious as to how long they keep giving out the gift cards!

By the way, this seems to be a Lite-On drive. The box I got listed overburn protection but not Smart-Burn directly. I went to Buslink's site, looked up the model number and they specifically said SMart-Burn. Since Lite-On is the only drive I know of who uses this protection specifically, one can assume that this is that drive.

Bought one.

External Model number is just above the UPC bar code (6 77891-13711 7):
RW5252

When it boots up, it is identified as:
LITE-ON LTR-52246S

ordered it online several days ago and ups dropped off the package today. was a JustLink & JustSpeed Technology. went to local staples. they had 2, one in front of another. the one in front said BURNProof Technology. i asked the manager if i can see it. he took it out and i noticed the one in the back said: SmartBurn. Took that one instead. Model # said: RW5252 (sorta got shaky when i saw that cause i know lite-on's begin with LTR-xxxx). opened it and behold, it does say LTR!!! sweet.

going to drop by staples tomorrow to return the JustLink one.

thanks to the OP!
thanks for the deal UHS!

Don't count on getting the Buslink rebate from the manufacturer. I still waiting for mine from late march and so are many others.

There are three different drives available under that "Buslink 52x24x52" name. Only one of them is Liteon and then the box would say "SmartBurn."
Buslink rebates suck big times, it is almost certain you will have to keep calling them untill they send the money back to you. If there is any chance to reject your rebate submission, they will.

I went to my local staples and inspected the boxes. None said "SmartBurn" on the front, so I had them order one from the Staples web site for me. I figured I might get lucky and get a lite-on. The sales associate typed in my $10 off $50 coupon code without a hassle.
Well, I was lucky because the one they special ordered for me said "SmartBurn" on the box and the model number on the back of the drive says "LTR".

My box didn't say SmartBurn on it It just said overburn protection, but if you punch in the model number from the side of the box on the Buslink site, it says smartburn there. Even if it isn't a Lite-On, I got this for my 13 year old son to learn from, so it's really not that important. My main burner IS a Lite-on.

I didn't get the smartburn, the model on the upc is RW5252. but after boot, it identifies as "52x24x52 CDRW", this isn't right. I'm going to my local store today and check if they have the smartburn one.

I didnt wanna take a chance, plus I am still looking for $10 off $50 in store coupon. Can anyone HELP with $10 off $50 please?

Even though the picture of the box at Staples.com has smartburn on it, the one I got in the mail only has Justlink and Justspeed. I'm not really sure what that means, but I've burned about 10 cds at high speed and had absolutely no problems. The only bad thing is that if it reads or burns at 52x, it's as loud as a vacuum cleaner and vibrates like it's gonna shake my computer to pieces. I just used Nero to set the read to 32x and burn at 40x and now it's nearly silent.

Where can you go to identify the manufacturer of your drive? Is there a website or a program to do it? Thanks
