The normal price is $69.95 if you buy the DVD from Britannica store.
Click here to go to the promotion page.

This deal has to use a coupon tough. I don't think I can post the coupon code here. So plese PM me for the code.

This is a very nice encyclopedia, especially all information comes in one DVD.

That is so generous of them given that they bought it for $5 at Kohls. Check this auction:
At least the original $5 went to children's charities (check out the Kohls logo on the CD), if not their profit from the resale. Pretty sleazy, if you ask me.

I think britannica used to sell their encyclopedia cdrom for hundreds of $$$ while MS was selling encarta for about $50 (and even free w/ new computers). I guess britannica realized that they weren't the hottest sh*ts after all.

But if you recall, a year or so ago, EB announced with great fanfare that they were going to give free access to their online site. Then they got overloaded and had to relaunch, and now it's not free anymore. EB isn't really for the masses the way Encarta and World Book are, is it? They have to make their money somehow. In any event, free after rebate encyclopedias this year are harder to come by than in the past.

Yeah, i remember when they sold them hardbound... they still do. I paid about $1200 for my Britannica... and $600 or so for Comptons. Also got a medical set too for about $400 or so.

Twinhead; thanks for the lead, but one should be aware that the units are for "upgrades" and, according to the CSR on their 800 service, will not work without a prior installation. So there you go.

I got the code in the mail and it mentions nothing about an expiration date so I would assume it is legit for as long as they sell the 2002 DVD. Like the 2001 edition the price will become available to everybody at a low price as the year goes on.

I ordered a mess of the 2001 DVDs a while back and now they send me these great deals I love it.

Sorry this is the full version, no mention on the product page or the mailer I have of it being an upgrade also:

System Requirements:

Microsoft ® Windows ® 95, 98, 2000, Me, XP or Windows NT® 4.0
Pentium ® 166MHz or faster processor; 233 MHz recommended 64 MB RAM minimum; 96MB RAM minimum for Windows 2000/Millennium/XP users
140MB free hard-disk space (plus 50MB for IE 5.01)
800x600 resolution, 16 bit color
Mouse
Sound card and speakers recommended
Printer and Internet access recommended

No mention of needing older versions

But they are currently backordered until mid-November ( already gone right )

After scanning the page I failed to read the title and it does state upgrade offer. That must be why I received the deal because I purchased the 2001 edition. But in all reality why would an upgrade be on a DVD has that much changed in one year? Twinhead also says that it is full so I would trust him as its his deal.

Thanks for the information Whitneymuse. But I just popped in the DVD and finished the installation. I don't have previous installation and I am actually using it right now without any error.
So the CSR might has us some wrong information.

Twinhead, this is your deal, and phreakyzen, I did read what you wrote, so please bear with me one moment to verify what you've written. I clicked on your link and also readied the website for ordering and they state that this is for the "upgrade" version. In speaking with the 800 order taker, they re-stated that the product requires a former installation for it to work. Could you please verify that you ordered the one from the site, the "upgrade" version and that you had NO prior installation on your system and it did work? Thank you in advance; I don't want to have useless upgrade DVD and my apologies for asking again.

I just replied your PM Whitneymuse. Once again this is a retail version of encylopedia, not an upgrade version. I am using Windows XP, I installed it and run it and enjoy it. I don't see why I should have prior installation in order to run the 2002 version because the installation itself didn't ask me for previous version. So, the deal is still good.
