i got one of these at staples when it was $40.
it's got some problems with win98. i think also depends on your video card. not the best card, but pretty nice overall.
i got the TV Wonder. do have the mpeg encoding. it looks great. i still have some problems with the software that comes with it. don't have time to look for another one.
I don't have any problems capturing video with the win2k beta drivers. I have to say that the ATI TV Wonder is a great card but the only weak point is the weak support by ATI. Last and only updated drivers they have for this card came out in October 31st of 2000.
actually, i got this 2 years ago from Buy.com for $40 shipped, so if $59 is warm, $40 is blazing hot.
had some problems with PCI, traded it in for a TV Wonder USB. TV Wonder USB's video quality was crappier due to the bandwidth limitations of USB. TV Wonder PCI gave me IRQ conflicts and constantly froze my system. Lose-Lose situation.
I've had a lot of probs with my tv-wonder too. I got it like a year and a half ago. I would say it has worked for only about 3 months since them. It is not compatible with certain video cards. ie. i had the hardest time working it with a voodoo 3, and now i am having trouble using it with my radeon.
Avoid ATI TV tuners like the plague (I don't think i spelled that right).
I had one- it ALWAYS crashed. ALWAYS. And forget about ATI tech support. You can't even d/l the bloody drivers online. Check out cnet's user reviews: 525 votes, nearly 50% of users gave it a thumbs down: cnet review
I've the TV Wonder running in Win2k. YOu've to download either PowerVCR 3 or some other software to flash the hardware (that's what my cousin did). I'll let you guys know how to make it work stable in Win2k when i find the link.
okie...this is what i found....
1. Download Direct 8.x Drivers
2. Download latest ATI drivers
3. Download software from SnapStream Media or Cyberlink PowerVCR 3.
I think that's all....
I'll keep on finding the best solution and will keep posting it here.
Peace!!
