What color is this case really? The descriptions say bronze but all the pictures show it as dark grey-ish color.

Anyway, if you don't need the power supply, you can get this case without a power supply for 32.99 + s/h at Directron.

First off, without a PSU, the cheapest shipping option is UPS Ground, which is $19, bringing the total to $52...which makes it much less of a deal. The same 3 day Fedex Express Saver shipping you can get with Newegg for free, lists from Directron @ $44.50...with no PSU! That means if you got the case from Directron with no PSU via 3-Day Fedex, it would be $15 more than the case with PSU @ Newegg...

You didn't put a lot of thought into that did you?

😉

Buying the case @ $64, getting it 3 Day Fedex, and selling off the PSU would make much more sense.

No, not really 🙂 Just showing that if someone doesn't need the PSU but likes the case there are other options to save a few bucks. No need to get worked up 😀

Anyway, I noticed the P160 also has free shipping at Newegg too. $109 without a window with free shipping, or $98 + $15 shipping for the one with the window. Argh...

Oh sorry....didn't mean to come off that way. I was just saying with shipping, it didn't work out. We are all after getting the best "bang for the buck" anyway right?

Sorry about that, I meant my 😉 to mean I was just kidding around... 🙂

From what I understand, the only difference in the BQE is the PSU and the side mounted HD's (which I don't like). From the reviews I read, most of the noise is from the sleeve bearing fans in the SL PSU, and by removing the fan grids in the front and back, and changing the PSU fans, it should be equally quiet. The BQE comes with a Tru Power PSU right? If so, that's probably the difference in noise right there...

🙂

The SLK3700-BQE actually comes with a 350w Smart Power with a single fan instead of the normal 2. The Sonata however does come with a 380w True Power, it also has a single fan.

Below are 3 good articles reviewing the cases as well as an Antec comparison chart.

Antec SLK3700-BQE

Antec Sonata

Ahh, I see there are a couple of little differences between the BQE and the AMB. However, it seems silent PC likes the AMB better if you are willing to cut out the fan grids (which I am), and remove the plastic fan holder (which won't be an issue as I won't be using a front intake), and the AMB has a glossy paint job, which I prefer.

So, looks like I made the right choice! 😉

I just don't like that sideways HD mounting scheme...personally. 🙂

oh ya gotta give that sideways mounting scheme a chance. Once I figured out how to work it...it is genius. If you ever have to replace a hard drive and have tried to work one out past a long video card or a tall CPU fan....the sideways scheme is genius. I change hard drives a lot, upgrading for instance from a 160GB to a 200GB to a pair of 250's. With the sideways mounting it was nearly as simple as snapping in new RAM (in a location you can actually reach). In fact, with some spare mounting brackets from another case that didnt use all the bays, I am using a 250GB as almost a removeable drive for offsite storage...ghosting to a couple of drives I just pop in and wham.

Give er a shot 😉

It's worse for cooling...look at the review. BQE had the hard drives run hotter because the side rail of the cage deflects the air. Anyway, I don't like it. I change HD's often too, but I can just pull the cage...

*shrug*

I am not sure what is so hard about using Ebuyer link above. Once you select US flag in upper right and click on flag and select "always redirect" click and close. Click on link again. The $89 price that shown is the "List Price" . Click on "Click here for Special Pricing". Voila, $62.96 price for the SLK3700-BQE. Shipping to MD is $11.73. Plus at Ebuyer it is NOT OOS. Presently 118 in stock.

I do not think you have to be a Rocket Scientist to figure this out.

Hmm. I wonder if this is going to be regular price now on with free shipping. Anyway I've one coming. Don't have motherboard or cpu for it. I might pick up that Abit board and A64 2800+ combo Newegg is doing for $200.

I was just about to purchase one of these cases. This case looks very similar to the antec lanboy. Any of you guys have one of those?

Just got this case from NewEgg. Nice but the front cover is cheap plastic. Mine came broken in 3 places. First I noticed one of the push in taps on the bottom was cracked then I saw that both of the top plastic clips were cracked and about to fall off. I called antec support but haven't got through yet. It bummed me out because otherwise I love the case. I read somewhere else that several people had this problem. So, beware because the front cover is CHEAP plastic. 🙁

Weird. Just got mine from Newegg and the front plastic seems solid, and the case was in great shape. Are you sure it's not so much "cheap plastic" as rough handling by the shipping carrier?

Insand 3d...Glad your case was in good order. Well the tabs on mine are like a stress crack with white lines in it. Not all the way through the plastic but you can tell they are about to break off because of how loose they are. I have seen this before on other plastic items. The box wasn't damaged so I'm going to stick with cheap plastic.

Weird man. Sorry to hear that. If the box was fine, my guess is you got one that might have been mishandled during packing or something. Antec is usually very good at resolving these types of things, and the case and PSU have a full 3 year warranty.

You might want to shoot a PM to AntecCSR as he seems to regularly visit the cases and cooling forum.

I'm sorry your case came that way, but I'm going to have to disagree on the cheap plastic assertion. Even if the plastic was cheap, it would not just crack on its own like that. Also, I gave the front bezel a real good look over after reading your post, and the plastic used in the 3700's front bezel is the same quality plastic that has been on all my Antec cases to date. Everything in the case is top notch, and it wouldn;t make much sense that they would use cheap plastic.

Are you just assuming it's cheap plastic because it's broken?

No offense, I just have the same case, it's been very popular, and I don't think I've ever heard of anything on the Antec SLK series called "cheap".

I hope it get's resolved for you soon. 🙁

The front cover is cheap and easy to break. It's the same way on my Antec 1080AMG case. The front on that broke off the first day I got it. Real flimsy. I haven't broke the front cover on SLK3700AMB case yet but I'm sure it'll break soon. The rest of the case is top notch but the front cover is cheap flimsy plastic.
