Well this is antecs quit line of cases. Its a super-mini tower and comes with a 350W power supply. Seems like a perfect case for a HTPC. Its the best price i could find and i thought it was at least a warm deal.

Antec Case

got one of these for the mother in law a few months ago when they were on offer at compusa, not bad, would prefer to spend the money on the lan boy though

ya i didn't really want anything flashy and i wanted something really quit for the HTPC. I also didn't want anything flimsy. This case is made of steel rather than aluminum so it should be pretty sturdy.

I've got this case, and used the PSU for like a year. GREAT value. Ran a mobile Barton @ 2.4ghz, 1gig ram, 2 opticals, 2 Hdd's, x800pro overclocked, and case fans without breaking a sweat.

How quit was the case? Would you hesitate to use it in a HTPC?

I've never actually seen an Antec Sonata in operation, but I imagine this would be very close to it in terms of being quiet. The PSU is very quiet, but I replaced it with a Coolmax Taurus (~$40 underrated PSU that is very highly rated over at silentpcreview.com forums). That seemed to drop the noise slightly. For my CPU, I've got a 92mm Panaflo (on an xp-90) on a fan controller that I can turn down to ~5v which practically makes it silent. Once I did all that, the stock 120mm fan on the back of the case became the loudest component.

Be careful too, because this case has an "air duct" on the side that allows the CPU HSF to pull in cool air from the outside of the case to help cool off the CPU. If you have a slightly noisy HSF, I imagine this could make it slightly more audible.

To sum it all up, when I was using this case with the Coolmax PSU, and the 5v panaflo fan, I couldn't hear my system running when I unplugged the 120mm fan. If you were using this for a HTPC solution, I think the stock PSU would be fine. I would, however, replace the 120mm fan with a low rpm model, or, just unplug it...the Antec PSU would be exhausting enough air. Also, try to get a passively cooled video card, or a quality card (like my leadtek 6600gt which has a pretty quiet fan). I'd also suggest using a quality thermalright heatsink, with a low speed panaflo fan to cool your cpu.

Hope this helped, if you've got anymore questions, just ask. For what its worth, I'm thinking about ordering this case again intead of a cheapie Rosewill for my brother's build.

I'd highly recommend looking at this case to which Jersey posted a link... it doesn't come with a power supply, but the case cooling and design is better than the 2650, IMO. You can get a decent Sparkle power supply or something separately. I've seen the case go for about $46 shipped from Amazon, so the total cost with a separate power supply will probably end up close to the 2650.

You can check out www.silentpcreview.com case reviews section for a good review on this case.

I have this case and I wouldn't say it is silent. Quiet yes, as long as you have silent fans. There is a air guide on the side that you can mount a fan in, I think this is where most of the noise comes from, but it keeps my components cool. (It's very loud with a high rpm fan installed) Over all not bad, but not silent 😀

hmm id probably rather go with this over the case jersey posted. After you get the case and a descent psu you would probably be at around or near $100. FYI: this case is at least $10 cheaper than any place i could find.

Nice, this case is actually $20.99 cheaper than at newegg. How is the noise factor on this case? 1 Noisy - 5 Silent?

Anyone?

"1 Noisy - 5 Silent?"

2.5
Not a bad case for the price. Had to juggle (A8V) motherboard to get in and the locking slider that holds my cd/rw doesn't lock very well.

I second that, I ordered the 3000 from Provantage and it's easily the best case I've ever used. Advantages over the 2650 - 3 more removable 3.5 drive slots, 2 120mm fan spots (a must for a quiet system in my opinion), nice latches on the side door, and just plain roomier from the look of it.

Still, either case would be a good choice.

Jersey's case, the 3000, is about 2" taller and deeper than the OP's case. I was surprised by the visual impact of those extra 2", so for those who want an unobtrusive case, might want to keep that in mind.

I know all here hate 300 watt power supplies but the Antec slk2600 is the quietest case I have ever heard. Have used it for 4 builds and still havent heard the power supply. And is the easist case I have every used for a build.

guys where talking about a Super Mini Tower compared to a mid tower. Of course the one jersey mentioned is going to be roomier...its a mid tower. The only thing i will put in this case for a HTPC is just a dvd-burner & a hard drive. Maybe one more hard drive in the future if i need more room. You really don't need any more room for a htpc. Id actually rather have something smaller so maybe it looks closer to something in my home entertainment system.

Not a major savings, but CircuitCity is currently selling this case for $66.99. If you live in California, CircuitCity's price would seemingly be better by a whopping $2.50 (after tax.) And, you may be able to PM to Best Buy and save another $1.50 (more or less). Hey, every dollar counts.

i bought this case a couple of month's ago back when it was on sale at compusa. i still have it lying around so i can't tell you how it performs but it looks very good.

Well guys i got the case in and all i can say is its awesome. A very well built case and i can't hear the thing at all. Im using the retail box cpu fan and im very happy with my purchase. This thing is suppose to be a super-mini case but i have it right next to my enlight mid tower and its the same size. I can say one thing antec cases aren't the most flashiest out there but they are one of the best built from what ive seen today. If your building a HTPC you won't be dissapointed i promise you.

I'll vouch for the 3000 case too. It has great airflow and the Antec 120mm case fan has a 3-speed switch attached. I liked the case so much, I ordered a second one. I put a Vantec Stealth 520W PS in one and a PC Power and Cooling 470W Silencer PS in the other. Both are very nice and very quiet (one runs 24/7 in our bedroom).

get the antec slk3700amb, best case for the price....and you get a decent psu...i have bought many either from ebuyer.com or the last one was from amazon at 69.00 shipped.
