Warm? Aluminum Case for Dell Axim

I have been searching for this. It seems that Rhinoskin has finally come out with a aluminum case for the Axim.

You can find it here

It is $35 🙁 and there are cheaper cases that will fit the Axim out there, but I have been waiting for a nice aluminum one from a quality manufacturer since I got my axim 3 months ago.

There are other reviews in their forums and some other neat information to read up on.
(thanks goes to mattbta for links)

Edit: There is a 10% off code for saunders-usa.com

Edit2: Changed link above to point to Dell instead of Saunders-usa per Rossman's request. For those who still want the saunders link: Original Link

Edit3: Added review and link to an Axim enthusiest site

Nice case 🙂

price is a little high though... i'd wait for it to come down to earth a little

Yeah, that price is direct from the manufacturer. I am hoping that the actual street price ends up being cheaper when it hits the retailers.

Sweet... thanks for the link. The extra pics look sweet.

I thought RhinoSkin was the manufacturer... shows how much I know.

So how long do you guys think it will take for the price to drop?

Would this be a problem if you're using the stylus with your right hand? I would think the flap would get in the way, though I see that the expansion card slot on the left needs to be exposed.

Cool site. Thanks for the links. It seems that the reviews are mixed. Some people like it in some of the other threads. The link to the review that you showed seemed to think they should have used a better grade aluminum. But as someone mentioned in that thread what are you gonna due throw it up against a wall? It seems that most think it will be fine for typical light to medium protection (ie. book bag, pocket, etc.) I still might get it. I just wish it was $35.

There seems to be a lot of concern about the door opening to the right. To me it makes sense for right handed people. I can hold it with my left hand, and use the thumb to access the toggle switch while holding the stylus with my right hand. The concern I have is that I won't be able to wrap my fingers all the way around the axim, but this would be true regardless if it opened left or right. Without being able to wrap my fingers around it, I am afraid it will slip out of my hand. :-0

Well I just took the plunge. Purchased one from saunders-usa.com. The reviews on that axim site actually aren't that bad. There are some favorable reviews also.

I will let you know what I think when I get it.

I didn't intend to sound like a thread crapper. I would have gotten one, but I'm not sure I like the open from the right deal and after my wife let our baby hyper-extend her laptop screen, I wanted to get something that might withstand a little more abuse, should my wife let something like that happen again.

Let us know how it works out, as we've got dual Axim A5's 400MHz on the way.

got my axim today, it definately needs a better case than the one that came with it. ordered one of these from dell for $36.XX shipped....I'll post a review of my own when I get it.

Rhino Skin Axim case from Dell for $16.40 + S/h w/ Dell Premier account

I didn't think this was worth starting a new thread because it would probably not affect many people, but some of you can actually get this Rhino Skin case for the Axim from Dell for around $16.40 (or less). If you have a Dell Premier account (No, I don't know how to get one, except that I am the IT Manager for my company. My Dell rep emailed me the info one day w/out me asking her), then your sales rep has put in a preset factor that affects how much you save on each item on your customized website. Sometimes the deals here at AT are better than those savings and other times not (Latitude D600 is sooo sexy). While this might sound like a deal killer, it may not be if someone w/ an account is willing to sell them to the other peeps in the forum. I assume this is legal. I'd be willing to, but I'm not very up on how to receive funds and such.

I bought two (one for me and one for an employee), and the shipping came out to about $5, but even so it's still better than elsewhere AFAIK. Plus the shipping didn't change with the quantity ordered.

- scREAMZ!!!

Is there anything like the Rhino Skin case that opens top-to-bottom instead of left-to-right? (Kind of like Kensington's Palm cases.)

I'm thinking that would be easier to use--no?

Do you Rhino Skin owners find the Axim convenient for significant input even while it's in the opened case?

And does this case offer enough protection for back-pocket use?

And finally--how does this case compare, e.g., to this one--is it the same thing?

Thanks for your insights!

Wolfgang, you may want to check out the Pocket Solution for a flip cover that might fit what you're looking for. It's $24.95 also.

Hehe, no, it doesn't offer enough protection for back pocket usage. How big is you're back pocket that you can fit an Axim in there? Are you planning on sitting on it? Why? It'll never be as flat as an HP 1910 no matter how hard you try to sit on it.
However, it fits perfectly in the side pockets of your Docker Mobile pants.

The case you link to must be the same seeing as the pictures are identical and the features list is almost identical. Good price for $24.95 w/ possible free engraving. =)
Plus if you add some styli to bump it to $30, the $3.95 shipping goes away.
