While waiting for my pre-order to come in I was looking for a good deal on each of these parts separately. I tried to get the 128mb Lexar CF from outpost - but I had worries about it being generic - on top of that it was on backorder. I saw that the Canon case was ~$8 on buy.com so I decided to see how much I could get the rest for.

Buy.com SKU:
10267141 BATTERY PACK NB-1L FOR S100 LI-ION RECHARGABLE - $38.68
10310093 PSC-300 SOFT COMPACT CASE FOR S300 - $7.96
10275316 Viking CF128M 128MB Compact Flash Card - $54.99
Buy.com is offering free standard shipping on orders over $99 (under 20lbs) until April 30th

Total: $101.63 shipped

For those S200 orders:
Canon Case for S200 Also $7.96

I picked the Viking 128mb Compact Flash card because it was the better performer in DPReview.com Compact Flash Guide. Buy.com has cheaper CF cards, but I want the most speed I can get, even if it means a few more $$. I also threw in a PCMCIA Compact Flash adaptor for $6.17 for my laptop (My final order price was ~108 shipped).

Anyway, just thought it was a good package with quality 'in stock' products and free shipping.

Nice compilation of deals, I'm hoping I can find 256MB CF for $80 shipped after coupons/rebate from somewhere, guess I gotta keep looking. Wish I had a MicroCenter near me, but I do have a Fry's.

What's the difference between the NB-1L battery pack and the one which comes with the S200?

<< the battery w/ the s200/330 are stronger batteries. i would hold out and wait to get one of those when they become more available. >>

Thanks. I think I'll stick to the rechargeables which come with the S200, plus I have 6 Panasonic 1600 mAH's with 5 hour charger and I'm going to order 8 Gold Peak 1800 mAH with 3 hour quick charger from SunnBattery.com so I should be set in terms of batteries.

For what it's worth, I have the S300, the camera case listed above is great.

I stick an extra 128mb CF card and battery in the outter compartment.

It's a soft case that's just meant to give some minimal protection.........don't expect it to protect the camera if you drop it down a flight of concete stairs!

Performance on the CF cards doesn't seem to matter. I have two 128mb CF cards....Viking and MR Flash I believe. Using a firewire reader, the Viking is nearly 2x as fast.

In the camera, I notice no difference in picture taking or retrieval. Movies are the same also.

My $.02

rossman: the batteries for the s200/330 are proprietary (only way to get that small compact size... well, the olympus d-40z manages to use 2 AA...).

anyway, gotta buy those canon batteries if you want a spare. the nb-1l isn't too bad in itself, depends on the price of the extras for the h version (the battery that comes w/ the canons).

RossMan - I dont' believe you can use those Panasonic andd Gold Peak rechargable batteries w/ S200. It doesn't use standard AA or AAA batteries... Correct me if I'm wrong pls.

And yes, The batery which comes with S200 (NB-1LH) is 840 mAH, where as the one in buy.com (NB-1L, which also comes w/ S110) is 680 mAH. But I still think it makes a good backup battery.

I bought that battery and the case for my S110 from buy.com a couple weeks ago for 35.95 and 9.94 respectively ad pretty happy with them both.

Yep, the batteries for Canon S100/S110/S200/S300/S330 are proprietary. Hope you knew that, RossMAN...

Nope but now I know that. Damn now I have no real incentive to buy those 1800 mAH Gold Peaks.

*shrugs* At least I just saved myself $40.

I have S110. Can I use NB-1LH (for S200) on mine?

Tigerdirect has a 256MB 4x Lexar for $89.99 (in eBay you can get it as low as $51 + $10 shipping).

I see no reason why you couldn't use the NB-1LH in your S110.

I'm only getting the NB-1L as a backup battery. I have a feeling the NB-1LH will be expensive and hard to come by for quite some time.

if you do a search on cnet shopper, one place comes up w/ it for $50 (camera club i think?) no idea if they really have it or how reputable the place is tho.

but yes, i believe the nb-1l/h are interchangable, one just has more juice (like AA NiMH's).

and that 256 MB card.. dammit, if i had known, i woulda just bought it from ebay instead of the 128mb lexar from outpost :p

RossMAN, there is a deal for a SanDisk 256 CF card going for around $80 at the moment, but I keep hearing bad things about SanDisk CF cards...anybody have any testimonies about them?

Thanks I'll consider that but I've heard that Viking, Kingston and Lexar are good brands ... not sure about SanDisk. You want to ensure that it's high quality because you're entrusting your pictures to their media.

Yeah i was kind of scared when i first ordered from them, but it was fine, i got the order quick with no problems. i even recommended them to my brother and he also got his order just fine. I ordered a high capacity battery for the canon g1 (still works well).

The 8MB CF that came along with my S110 was a Sandisk.

Got my stuff from buy.com today. The Canon case is really nice! Dark blue felt material with a stainless steel engraved emblem. there is a front compartment with two pockets - perfect for the extra battery and an additional CF card!

The Viking CF card just came in an anti-static bag although it is a genuine Viking part. I also purchased a PCMCIA flash card reader for my laptop. Using sandra to bench the Viking card (in the PCMCIA reader) I got 1771kb per second. Which, according to lexar's 'X' convention, puts it smack dab at 12x. The USB reader scores 800 in the same test.

For $6, I think the PCMCIA CF reader is a HUGE value. Its much faster than the camera or the USB reader.

Now I just have to wait for the camera... *sigh*

Let's keep this near the top since people are just now starting to receive their S330 digicams.

What about us S200 users?

How r the PNY cards? I bought one 128mb card, and after reading everyone else's postings, I am having doubts. Does it make a difference??

I'm sure the PNY cars are fine. In my first post I linked to an article comparing CF cards. If you skip to the Coolpix 995 section, you will see that most cards perform about the same. With 2mp cameras, I don't think that card-speed is much of an issue. But when transferring from card to computer (via PCMCIA, USB or firewire) a faster card can speed things up.

(Still waiting for my S330!)
