Warm...Abit KG7 refurb at Newegg for $55 Shipped.

Damn good board, it's what I run in my system. I got my buddy to buy a refurb KG-7 from Newegg the last time it was in stock. Only 3 out of the 4 DIMM slots worked. We looked a little more closely and we found a grain of rice lodged in the last slot. Popped out the rice, put in the last DIMM, and the thing worked fine.

Snap, crackle, pop...rice crispys

Interesting. I don't know much about that chipset. How does it perform compared to a KT266A board?

What did your refurbs look like (obviously used looking? Brand new looking?).

I'm tempted...

5 came in the old style abit box -1 came in the new style box-all had cable's manual-etc. I haven't had a chance to fire them up yet which is a big mistake on my part since they only come with a 30 day warranty but abit MAY give you a year warranty. Its not as fast as 266a but not as buggy either, just install it as soon as you get it and run the heck out of it for 20 days so you have time to rma it IF you have too.

Also when I punched buy quanity off 99 it came back with 55 available,, so maybe you have a better chance of getting a good 1 when there is alot available???

yeah this abit board is rock stable. hum only for some reason i can install XP on the raid drives.

Just to follow up on this...

Board wouldn't boot - then I hooked up speaker and got the long beep (memory). Then I cleared the CMOS, moved RAM around, cleared CMOS...

Finally it came up - then I flashed to the newest BIOS, and it seems fine now. I'm running at 9.5 * 150FSB rock solid (and that's with Centon RAM I got from CC for $39.99 - kind of surprised it would do 150FSB, but I've been using it for over two hours now without problem - now that was a deal!).

It may be that there is a problem with the RAM recognition on this board, or the new BIOS may have fixed it. This will go in my 16 year-old step-son's machine, and he won't be messing with the BIOS so I'm sure it will be fine.

Solid and fast. I like!

How about the GA-7VTXE? Anyone know anything about that board?

What I'm really curious about is the "AS-IS" Asus DDR board I ordered from tcwo for $29. That'll be interesting...

Wow! LOL! I can just imagine the crazy story how the grain of rice got there =)

I bought an MSI K7T266 Pro2 refurb last week from newegg. It came to me (just board nothing else) and the bottom right corner of the board was broken off... I was upset, but the RMA process was easy, and they refunded shipping costs... Sad part is that was the last one they had :-( Good thing it was just a backup for my Pro2 RU!!

This is a lot of board for $55, so long as one doesn't mind the possibility of an RMA. They are going for $80-$100 in the FS/FT forum.

I've been running one for a while (it's not one of these refurbs though). Rock solid @ 162FSB. I think it will do 166, but I'm afraid I'm going to toast my cards!

The most stable overclocking board I've used yet (of any platform). Not as fast as the newest Via's, but more stable. I wish AMD made more chipsets...
