At Overstock.com we do our best to make sure that every piece of refurbished merchandise in that leaves our warehouse is in "almost new" or "like new" condition

yeah right! Last time i ordered a refurb. xbox they sent me a beat-up system with scratches all over.

That's because they just raised the price from $199 to $249 You just missed out on the Hottest Deal of the Year! hehehe

It looks as though this isn't an incredible deal after all. It seems there are a lot of retailers selling refurbished 21" monitors. Here is a $199 refurbished Dell 2125S 21" Trinitron CRT monitor from Fry's. At least at Fry's you can go and look at the monitor condition and image quality.

damnit...missed it...btw, did you order it from them and if yes, can you comment on the quality of the monitor ?

No, I wanted to but I just don't have the room here. I have just enough room for my 17" monitor. I called around looking for a wider shelf but none suited my purposes. I am currently using a 36"Wide x 24"Deep x 72" High. I need an open shelf which is 42" wide to accomodate the larger monitor. I think I found one just now online but I will need to call the vendor on Monday.

BTW, the $1 shipping has been extended to Saturday midnight! Must...resist...using...credit...card. Must...resist...

I got this monitor today, and I am pretty disappointed. It's generally pretty dark, and it has definate ghosting, especially when looking at buttons in a Windows dialog or just text. I would return the monitor if it would not cost $50 to ship it back, and then a 15% restocking fee. Does anyone have any advice for trying to fix these problems?

If you can't fix it, make them send you another one. Tell them the unit you recieved was defective. They SHOULD exchange it free of charge.

I doubt that replacing the vga cable will help. I would agree that your best bet is to get on the phone with customer service, and be persuade them to send you a new one. You should be able to reference the e-mail posted in this thread... if you read portions of it to a CSR and describe the discrepency between their promises and what they delivered, I'd imagine you'd have a pretty compelling case. Remember, when talking with CSRs, if at first you don't succeed... hang up, get a new one, and try, try again.

Also, you may be able to reverse the transaction through your credit card company, if the monitor is basically useless and DOA.

Just because a company notes that a product is refurbished does not give them the right to send you DOA/useless stuff. Quite the opposite, they note that it is often the case that refurbished items are more reliable than new ones... clearly not the case in your example. It would definitely be worthwhile to get on the phone and fight for your money.

I hope not every monitor ended up like this 🙁 Good luck to ya.
