Deal ends across the US on June 30.

Games that are not acceptable, at least at our store, are older sports games on all platforms (Madden {97,98,99}, etc.), and older (Usually pre-94) Playstation games; the majority of games on DC and N64 are acceptable.

Also, some of those Mario games are worth far more than the $7 the promotion gives. As are some of the fighting games on Dreamcast. I remember that Super Mario 64 no box/ins is worth something like $14 and Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is like $15.

Bottom line, if you want a GC, Xbox, or PS2 this is a good deal. I traded in my DC, 20 games, controllers, light guns, etc. and got $260 for it. :)

BTW, it makes the stores numbers look better to give you the best trade-in value possible. So they will bend over backwards to get the best price, as long as it doesn't break corporate policy.

Can I just trade games on this??? I want to keep my DC as the wife and kid love it and there are no "family titles" available for Xbox yet. I realize I won't get the $100 since I have no system to trade but would love to move to an Xbox for as cheap as possible.

I'm having a tough time deciding if this is a good deal.

I have all three eligable systems (PS, 64 and Dreamcast). I have more than enough games for the PS and may have enough for the Dreamcast, but don't have enough for the 64.

I am trying to see if I can work out a deal with the store manager at my local store so I can get more than the $100 credit.

Terry,

The manager wasn't in when I phoned, but the employee gave me the impression that the deal would max out at $100.

It sounds like you work for EB. Is this true? Did you get a special deal because of your employment or is this something I could potentially get as well? Thanks.

This is a great deal in my opinion. They are quite leinient on trade ins and systems as long as they are not on the "List" of games that they don't want.
You don't have to have all 10 games to get in on this either. I traded an old PS1 that didn't even work very well (It was my spare for parts) and 3 games for $51 off. The best ones to trade in are the odd titles for Playstation as the list is mostly sports titles and lame games that flooded the market. They also let me mix up the games (Playstation/N64) but I decided to keep the N64 games as they still are worth something. Basically they are just boosting their trade $$ for this special. They gave me $30 for the playstation and $7 for each game. They said they usually only give $15 for the console and $2-5 for games and the older odd games they would only give you $1. The only tough stipulation was that the store I went to required the instruction manuals, others it seems did not have this requirement.

does this really max out @ $100?

I have a DC, 4 controllers, 5 vmu's, an interact light gun (large one), 28 games (all in jewel cases with manuals and most are not bad games), etc.

I was just wondering what kind of money I could get for this stuff. You think I could get it "apraised" over the phone or even in person?

I'm not really eager to get rid of it, but if I got enough I might do it.

I did this deal a couple of days ago. Called first to get the info and told the
manager I only had 7 PS1 games to trade as well as the playstation console.
He said come on in and we would work it out to get to 10.

Once there the manager got on the computer and found 4 games in their
inventory for $4 each which he added to my other 6 games (one was on the exclusion list)
which got me to the 10 games total. They basically gave me an $8.50 trade-in for each
of these $4 games he found. The killer was they gave back tax on the $100 credit
as well! Used it to pick up an xbox. nice.:)

Did this deal today with my six year old Playstation. I'm glad I stumbled across this thread.

Well, it is true that the promo maxes out at $100. To understand how to get more money, you have to understand how EB does trade-ins.

Most every console, game, and accessory has a trade-in value attached to it. It also has a status, PO (Pre-owned) or POX (Pre-owned, excluded from promos).

The promo basically raises the trade-in value of the 10 games from whatever they were at to $7/pc and the console from whatever it was to $30. Fine, so 10 games and a console into it, and you've got $100. Here's the trick: you can do a regular trade-in along with the promo. I had games that were worth well beyond $7, like Marvel v. Capcom 2, DOA2, Virtua Fighter 3tb, etc. So I traded those in seperate, and that's how I got my trade-in value so high. Anyone can get that; you don't have to work at the store to get a good deal. As I've said before, stores are rated by their trade-ins; any EB should cut you the best possible trade-in deal because it makes their weekly numbers look good.

Yes, I do work at EB. I don't get special treatment, except for 10% off software, being able to check out games for 2 days at a time, and seeing all the stuff that goes on clearance before anyone else. :D

DjmCam,

I was mistaken on my original post. I misunderstood the employee I spoke to. The deal does not max out at $100. But if you have two systems and you have 10 games for each they will not allow you to apply both towards the purchase of one system. They will allow you to apply each one to a different system or to two of the same systems.

They will also give you credit above and beyond what you trade in for the $100. For example, they require the console (with all cables), one controller and ten acceptable games (with manuals and jewel cases). As a result, you could get additional credit for 3 controllers, 5 vmus, the interactive light gun and 18 games.

They game me $5 extra for one controller and an average of $1.50 for additional games (all of my extra games were old sports titles :( ). You would probably be offered more for your titles. I would take the system into EB and see what they will offer you.

I didn't feel the offer for extra credits was very good. I kept my nintendo 64 and my dreamcast, but sold all of my PS games and equipment. I put my 64 up on ebay (because I think I can get more than EB was offering). I may try to sell a couple of dreamcast games on ebay, but I will probably keep the console since I like the games I have so much.
