Outpost is suck. >>
You don't have that specs? Hmm...what have you been doing? If you've been following anandtech, you would have bought enough stuff to build you a much better computer (damn you anandtech and your hot deals!)
These days you need at least a p2 or p3 400-500mhz and a Geforce2 to run games at a decent framerate.
But yes, Outpost is suck >>
I think he mean's its a joke that Outpost is listing that as the minimum system reqs. WC3 would come to a crashing halt after you made 3 peons and a hero with those specs 😉
Anyway, I too am a legit Beta tester, and I think the game will be released in June as stated in the pre-orders. 1.10 was a pretty major overhaul with new units, abilities, spells, and structures implemented. I can see one more major patch like this with actual changes to units, tech trees, structures and race builds before the game goes final and quite a few nerf/tweak patches in the meantime. Also, don't forget that Blizzard has 2 to 3 weeks (burning and packaging time) to further patch the game during the time the game goes gold and it hits the shelves. That's why there's almost always a patch as soon as you log in with a new Bliz game.
I've been having a blast with WC3 since I got my beta, and I've had even more fun since 1.10/1.11. Other than a handful of ultra-cheese techniques, I think 1.11 did a great job of balancing out the units and races. There are many more viable strategies, and the game speed in general allows for longer tech build-ups if you choose that route. Town defenses have been beefed up slightly to deter early rushes, but I still think Humans and NE need improvements. Spell-casters are uber powerful and probably need some nerfing (banshees, sorcs, and necros mostly). Right now, its easy to mass/cheese to win, but the experience isn't nearly as fun as building a well-rounded army or complementing a teammates build strat.
I really think the Hero element is how this game will distinguish itself. I really enjoy microing my units and preserving them, and effective hero use makes this all possible. Which hero you use, how many you get (3 max) how you use him, which skills you choose for him and whether he lives or dies will have a pretty significant impact on your effectiveness in battle. If you're a fan of RPG or strat games with limited unit resources and micro-managing your units, you'll really enjoy this game. Its not just a mass unit click-fest where you run 12 units into a furball; there are a lot of tricks that allow full control over each unit, and special abilities that can't be used effectively unless activated by the player (most of the best spells/effects can't be auto-cast.
Anyway, $60 is a lot, but if you like Bliz games and RTS or RPG or a mix, you won't be disappointed. I'd wait though til BB has it for like $40 bucks though 🙂 Blizzard also has a ranking/ladder system that only adds to the crack-fiend addiction of their games.
