Wow, this is a really well done box.

Whether or not the game is particularly great is still suspect, but it's a very nicely done box.

Considering the small price increase over the normal box, this collectors edition is just packed with good stuff.

I think it's a pretty cool box. And I just thought I'd share.

:p

Agreed. Got it 3 days before release of WC3. I love being friends with the managers at best buy.

I got it for $35 during the EB promo last month. I dunno if it would be worth the $75 my brother paid for it when it came out....honestly the soundtrack and DVD I haven't even touched and the artbook I flipped through and then put back in the box....

It is pretty sweet if you get a good price on it.

I got the regular version for $25 and change shipped from Hot Deals

don't think just a box is worth the extra dough

Ok...then I think spending more than $25 on "a soundtrack CD, a coffee-table sized artbook, a DVD containing all of the FMV and some other stuff, lithographs of each of the box covers....." along with a purdy box is worth the extra dough.

ROFL!

I think he made a typo.

Seriously...even if it was $25US difference (I'm pretty sure it was more like $25 Canadian difference) but what else would I do with it? I'll just not eat pizza for lunch every day for a week, and that will more than make up the difference :p

Me too, but I agree with him nonetheless...considering the amount of use I have gotten out of the bonus items, $25 extra would have been a waste, IMO.

OTOH, my friend who paid full price the day it came out swears the soundtrack is brilliant and has watched the DVD a couple times, too. I'd say he got his money's worth.

A few weeks ago EB had a sale for it's 1000th store opening or something. There was a coupon to get the collector's ed for $55, and there was another coupon to trade in any 10 DVDs for $10 each in credit. I just happened to have an extra copy of Evangelion disc 1 that someone gave me, and a copy of Crash.
Had I more DVDs to turn in, it would have been even cheaper. A number of people went and bought crappy <$5 discs and took them straight to EB and traded them in :)

I bought it the first day it came out. So it was either $60 for the regular or spend $75 for the collectors. Is $15 worth the better box, DVD, sound track, coffee table art book, 4 prints? I definitely think so. Do I have any regrets I paid $75 for it? No. Its just like having a Ti4600/Radeon 9700 Pro delivered to you on the day of the release.

Btw, the story inside the manual is interesting. Just thought you'd like to know :p

I just picked up War 3 Collector's Edition, and the (goldish/bronzish?) collector's tin of RTCW @ E.B. on the way home from school. Both previously owned (and appropriately slightly marked-down), but still in mint condition.

I was originally satisfied just finding the RTCW tin--now something to pair with and opposite the Q3 tin hehe--for $19.95, not having purchased the game before, but then the huge C.E. of War 3 caught my eye just as I was leaving the store. Now I had no idea how much this thing normally costs, and I didn't think I was gonna purchase it just yet, so I simply asked the nice cashier if the price of $64.95 (written in marker) was sale price and how many boxes they had in back. Turns out that not only was the price was actually lower ($54.95), but they also had a recently-returned copy of the game complete w/EVERYTHING and in just-like-new shape... for $45. Needless to say, the urge to impulse-buy was too strong for this gamer/collector. :)

Nice, ominous gothic-like tunes on the soundtrack, nothing that detracts from the atmosphere of the game and certainly plays well in the background. I haven't had a glance at the "coffee-table" sketch-book yet, but I expect it to be a nice addition to my collection of game memorabilia in the very least. The DVD box is still wrapped, but I expect to be "wowed" anyway, since this is the very first DVD I will play on my recently acquired, first-ever DVD playing device--yeah, my VCR-owning self is behind the times. :frown:

On that note, anyone know what the big envelope contains or is supposed to contain? Call me lazy, I haven't had a gander at it, just noticed it was open when the cashier rifled through the C.E. box at my wishes. :p

Oh, and in regards to purchasing RTCW, thanks in advance for the warm welcome to November of last year. ;) :p

It contains 8x10 prints of the 4 (one for each race) normal edition box covers.
