Warcraft III any good?

My 10 year old son went into BB to buy WoW and the employee tells him they don't sell it alone anymore and gives him a box that has it and a addon.

My son comes home im's me the cd key so I can turn his trial account into a real account. The cd key doesnt work so I have him put the cd on the scanner and send it to me. Turns out BestBuy gave him Warcraft 3 and a addon.

Of course they don't accept opened software so I'm stuck with it.

Is it worth even installing?

i'd say its good for a play through. will give you some background history for WoW.

that employee is DUMB!
i don't even think there is a WoW + add-on version in the same box.

I know. I understand why they don't accept returned software also but in this case they shouldn't be suprised if that wrong software they sold someone gets thrown at their head.

In the end getting wow cost me $60. $40 for Warcraft III + $20 online activation for WoW.

StarCraft has better multiplayer.
C&C 1 and Red Alert 1 have better single player.

THats a matter of opinion, I can't stand SC's multiplayer but played both WC3 and the frozen throne online for many many hours. I bought both games for mp but I eventually did the campaign for both and liked it, so yeah both games are worth it.

warIII is pretty good. Single player is not like multiplayer at all.

If you played through the warcraft series there is a lot more to appreciate about WoW (since a lot of the locations in WoW are from the games. Worth playing through IMO.

WC3 is a FANTASTIC game.

I agree. Even if real time strategy isn't your thing it's still worth playing through at least once just to get all the backstory behind WoW.

I'm not much into RTS games at all (though I did like the battles in the Total War series), but I still play WC3 (Frozen Throne) with my son on the LAN. I had never played before and he had to teach me! We play on the same team against 6 or 7 AI opponents. It's a lot of fun. I still haven't learned which race works best for me, so I always choose "random" since each one is unique and has its own strengths.

Their return policy is not valid if they screwed up - you don't void your rights just becasue they put up a little sign. I'd yell at them about cheating and lying to kids until they gave me my money back.

so you are another one of those who never played warcraft RTS but chose to flood the WoW world...great.

your son probably only asked for "Warcraft"

oh and can i buy your frozen throne CD key. it'd be fun online.

Really hated WC3, the feel of the graphics and gameplay were just so...off.

It felt way too cartoony, and I didnt like how they setup the single player missions.

This is IMO. It was just not what I expected, not my type of game.

I love Warcraft III; played it for a long time a few years back. Very fun strategy game IMO.

It doesn't seem like Blizzard really cares about the warcraft story anymore though. They're basically destroying their own lore to make more money off of WoW, I mean come on gnomes? They are possibly the most stupid gaming creation ever, and they were never in any real warcraft game. I have to wonder why people would even wanna play WoW without playing warcraft though. Isn't a big part of MMORPG's questiong throught he story, and wouldn't that be muchmroe fun if you were actually familiar with the universe. I mean little cool things like finding where grom hellscream fought mannaroth is sweet playing a game like WoW, but I don't think most of the people that play or even Blizzard care anymore. I mean people that play like 5 hours a day don't even know who doomhammer is. Anyway just a small little rant, I don't understand how people could be obsessed with a game they don't even know the history of.

wow, i hope he got the warchest version or whatver it was called (with the expansion and guides and stuff) for $40

can't believe even that still sells for $40

i might agree with you on the blizzard side, but you don't need to really know anything about Warcraft history to enjoy WoW...you just sound like another elitist douchebag when you say stuff like this.

if you're so worried or mad that people like this are playing or that blizzard is ****** up your precious lore, why even play? paying them to play is saying that you agree with what they are doing.

How are 10 year old kids even supposed to know there is a history to this game? I should have made him play all the older Elder Scrolls games before Oblivion huh? Feel bad for all those console gamers that only get to play Oblivion.

He plays it with his friends and enjoys it. Big deal.

Uh, I know for sure that gnomes were units in WC2 and WC3 (never played the first). They fit into the game with the same technologically advanced theme they had in the RTS games.

Also, WC3 is an excellent game. I agree with the nice history it gives you for WoW. Not mandatory obviously, but makes the game more enjoyable. Also, DotA to me is just as fun as WoW. http://www.dota-allstars.com/index.php

You take Warcraft's goofy little cartoonish story way too seriously. It's not exactly LOTR or Star Wars.

I highly recommend you try DOTA.

I consider it one of the best competitive online games online right now.

Sigh. That game really ticks me off. Usually takes an hour or so to finish one game (against competitive people, of course).

Someone get out the BassHunter video...
