Has anyone got Warcraft II (original, not BNE) to work in Windows XP? I get some IPX error when I click "Install" and my friend can get it installed but gets VESA driver errors. This seems like a perfect candidate for the Win95 or 98 Compatibility Mode change, but that didn't work for him (and I can't even get it installed).

We're trying to get a LAN game going for tonight, bring back some memories, any help is greatly appreciated :)

The original is a DOS game, so who knows if it will ever work under win XP. You really need to get the BNE version, not only is it Windows compatible, but it has some basic improvements that cure alot of the glitches in the original.

Hmm, IPX is disabled by default under XP, maybe you need to add that protocol under network properties (you certainly will have to to play on a LAN)

re: the VESA problems there used to be a setup exe you could go into to adjust this, in the war2 directory

I love Warcraft 2, still my fave game. If you ever get bnet, drop me a line :)

Thanks -- I found War2 BNE and it installed fine. We installed the Spawn version on a friends and he is also on XP and he can join my game fine. However, a guy on 98 cannot see the IPX game. I don't understand how IPX works, but is it because of the 98 - XP and is there something we can do?

It isnt because of 98

- are you sure all PCs have IPX installed?
- Are all computers on the same workgroup, War2 can be a bit finnicky this way
