Warcraft FT constantly crashing

My install of Warcraft 3 Frozen Throne constantly crashes.

Running:

P3 1GHz
256MB no name ram
Gainward Ti4200 GeForce4

I've tried installing the latest nVidia drivers, uninstalling them with driver cleaner, and reinstalling the gainward drivers to no avail. I've also updated WC3 via battle.net.

Any ideas as to what may be wrong?

I'm wondering if it's crappy ram.

The screen starts blinking mostly white with spots. Sounds conitinue in the background as normal (they dont' start looping or anything) and you can see a 'block' which is the cursor. basically ctrl+alt+del doesn't do anything and i always need to just turn off the power to get control again. It's a huge pain since 50% of the time the game plays fine.
 
Try taking the side off your case and pointing a room fan in there after cleaning all of the dust out. Also check to make sure the fans in the system (Video, CPU, case, etc...) are running.

my computer hasn't had it's sides on for a while with all the changes i've been playing with. and yes, everything is well dusted (ie there is no dust) and all my fans are moving.
