The only options you get are LAN or Battle.net. Anyone know if it's possible to set up a "tunnelled" connection via TCP/IP to simulate and play via LAN?

My friend and I were going to play online this weekend and this is the first weekend + holiday the War3 is out so we figured b.net would be taxed out. We may not need to do this. We usually play Brood War together on b.net but lately, the last 2 times we've played, he loses his connection to battle.net.

Isn't there a fee for Kali?

Me and some friends play cooperative with RedAlert2 via VPN (virtual private network) all the time. We are currently playing Warcraft3 this way. So yes, it's possible to play through LAN this way. In fact, any game that can be played on LAN will work with VPN.

It's very easy to setup, and there are no hassles with registering accounts with 3rd party servers, finding friends & gathering in same place/room, password protecting chatrooms, etc. It works just like a LAN (you can share files, maps, etc.).

You will need Win2K Server, however, if you want to setup VPN to allow more then 1 simultaneous VPN connection. If you are just playing with 1 friend, then Win2K Pro/WinXP will work just fine.

How about setting up the VPN thru my linux machine? I wonder how possible that is; to allow more than 1 connection.

Sorry, but I never used Linux in my life. I'm sure someone else here knows how to do it though.

For those without DSL/cable, playing game on Battle.net isn't really an option. or is it?
