ok.. I know people think that this may be another one of those "opening up ports" problems.. but i've seriously spent days trying to figure out what's wrong. I've read countless forums and now i turn to the AT folks..

I'm able to play on battle.net by myself including hosting a game and having others join. I've played about 5 full games. My roommate just bought a copy of WC3 also just to play on bnet with me.

The problem is, when I'm already logged on battle.net, he can't log on.. or if he does, then I get kicked off a minute after he signs on. We have Cox cable and we're using the SMC Barricade router (one of the hot deals a while back) to split our cable connection. I've forwarded the ports 6112.. including 6113 and then went 6112-6119 when it still didn't work.

I assigned 6112 to my IP, and 6113 to my roommate's IP.. Then he changed his port setting in WC3 to 6113.. and that didn't work. I don't know what's wrong. I think it may be something about the router. There is communication going on through my roommate's computer when he's under port 6113 because he is able to get on battle.net after kicking me off.

Blizzard won't help. SMC tech support likes to put us on hold for hours so they wouldn't have to talk to us... I'm tired of losing to sucky opponents because I have sucky allies that die in the beginning of the game. I waste my units trying to defend his base, and barely survive when my base is being attacked without his help. I need my roommates to help me out!

Anyone please have any ideas?

Have you had similar problems with other Blizzard games? Are you using DHCP?

I have the exact same problem as you and i'm still trying to work the issue out. So far I have got as far as both pc's joining a game that has already been made no probs on battle net...but we can't create our own. Opening up the ports isn't enough. You must set up port forwarding for your router to forward port 6112 to your computer and 6113 to your roomates PC. Then set the game to use 6112 on your pc and 6113 on your roomates PC. BY doing this i was able to get both PC's on battle net and people can join games created by both PC's no prob. However, when i create a game with one of my pc's and try and get the other to join it just won't work and vice-verca. I can however get both PC's to join a game that has already been made and the game will start no problems. Hope this helps....

I've never had the opportunity to play other Blizzard games on bnet at the same time.. Diablo 2 was just myself only or Starcraft was my roommate only.

I was using DHCP.. then turned it off, but still didn't work.

DJediMaster:
I've forwarded the 6112 to my computer and 6113 to my roommate's computer.. but no luck. I'm thinking it's my SMC router.. what router are you using?

I'm running a PC configured for NAT using the RRAS service for the routing. It's wierd..if I create a game using the PC configured for NAT i can get all the client machines to join without any hitches...there's only a problem with the client machines creating games and others on the LAN joining that particular game...

wonTong,

I think you may be out of luck by going thru the router. Heres why: the router has a single IP, so all communication relies on this single IP. The way Bnet works means that each computer needs a unique IP. So two computer behind a router will seem like one and only one will work if any continue to work. Some Cable companies will give you a second or third IP free of charge. You lose some of the security you might have with your router, but multiple people could play behind a single cable modem. Just hook the computers up through a switch, then directly to the cable modem and see. If you don't have one the little 5 port switches are real cheap.

My cable provider provides me with two IPs, so I can have two battlenet connections as long as one is in front of the router and connected directly to the cable modem so it gets an IP from the cable provider.

Hope that helps.

we have two machines sharing one IP through a router and we haven't had this problem. one machine is set as the dmz and thats it. no other forwarding going on... hmmm dhcp for one machine, the one in dmz is static.

Thanks for the replies guys.. I've seriously tried everything.. spent too much time.

My roommate went to my friend's house who has the same setup except with a Linksys router. He installed our copies of WC3 on their computers and guess what? Everything worked perfectly. The first computer would be 6112, second computer 6113.. that's it.

Something is up with our SMC router.. but anyhow, we just bought a Linksys router.. testing it out today.

hmm we never even changed the War3 port. they are both default. it's a d-link router if it matters.
