Borrowed my dad's car for a week, but that means I have to deal with alternate-side parking. I'm sitting in the car double-parked along with everyone else. I brought a laptop to get some work done until the street cleaner comes by, hoping to find a no0b's wireless connection. Success! I can safely say that I've never posted from a car before this moment. :D

Lmao!!!

Nice!

One day you'll post from your segway.

I've posted from a gold's gym in CA a few years ago, they had browsers on their bicycles.

pick her up from work! :p

Not worth losing the parking spot! ;)

OK it IS worth losing the spot, but with only 4 minutes to go... I moved over for a spot about 15 minutes ago so I wouldn't miss out. Time to pack-up. I figure I'll revive this thread on Thursday when I have to move the car again. :D (I won't need it until this weekend so I'm keeping this spot dang it)

Well, I'm at it again. It's a "Monday Thursday" spot. Had a heck of a time getting the wireless to work this time. Windows can be so moody sometimes! It's freezing today... but we have no heat / hot water at home today (and yesterday) so I'm actually warmer in the car when I turn on the heat here!

makes me wonder, however, since that man was charged with accessing a protected computer (hacking), is accessing an unprotected network in anyway similar? IMO, its not, you're not hacking into the unprotected network; its just there. Maybe the law is more detailed than this, i dunno. Hopefully someone can chime in about this.

Bah, that was totally different. This is borrowing an open connection to get some work done while waiting for parking. It's not like I even browse other machines on the network (or look for them, for that matter). What would you do if in the same situation your laptop picked-up an SSID of "NETGEAR" and another of "linksys? You'd think, "Ah, teh no0bage! Let me nef some and tell myself I'm getting work done." :D

umm...you people did READ the ENTIRE article, right?

They were stealing CREDIT CARD NUMBERS......that is not WARDRIVING..that is WARDRIVING and theft

btw, those guys were idiots whe nti cam to being inconscicuous...

At some point, Lowe's network administrators and security personnel detected and began monitoring the intrusions, and called in the FBI. In November, a Bureau surveillance team staked out the Southfield Lowe's parking lot, and spotted a white Pontiac Grand Prix with suspicious antennas and two young men sitting inside, one of them typing on a laptop from the passenger seat, according to court documents. The car was registered to Botbyl.

susspicious....lol

I did read the entire article. What they did was wrong. But, they were not charged for accessing an unprotected network as far as I know. Because of Lowes insecurites, the people were able to gain access to things they were not suposed to be, and therefore were able to plant the code to steal credit card numbers. If they were simply cuaght for accessing the internet from their unprotected newtwork, is that a criminal offense? That was my original question.
