Saw it this weekend....awesome movie although parts of it made me call it "Minority Report 2"

And if your main character is named "Ray"....dont cast tom cruise...that just didnt work for me. Ray is to be played by either Kevin Costner or Jamie Foxx :)

***SPOILER ALERT***

Why would the aliens implant ships deep in the earth, millions of years in advance of an invasion, rather than just taking over Earth before it was inhabited by complex organisms?

Yeah, that was pretty damn retarted. Especially because it served the story in no way. Why not just make the ships crash into earth, like they did in the radio show?

I still haven't decided if it would have been better in the original 1800's setting

I saw it yesterday. It was ok with the exceptions of few bad spots:

Bad Spots:

Too little showing of fights between the military and the aliens.

What the deal with the lady and her hubby trying to get the little girl away from her dad and brother while they are just an ear shot away. Not like the little cry is crying from lost.

Tim Robins character suppose to be "bad ass/touch" yet he is so wimpy to beat Tom Cruise character.

If the aliens are so advance in technology and watching us for millions of years, don't they know or do any research about our food/water/bacteria/environment and stuffs? Why don't they send a small force to test it out first before send out the whole group. Not too smart if you ask me.

I saw it, i thought it was above average. The first half of the movie, i would give it 10/10... what an experience. Second half of the movie, with all the crap that went on in the basement of that house, and then the happy ending, just ruined it for me.

-I also didn't like how the tripods ran off humans rather than petrol/whatever. Seemed a bit cheesy and cliche'd. Why did they spear some people and suck their blood but kept others in little cages/lunchboxes on their backs?

The people kept in the cages were reserve "fuel." That was the point of the entire scene with Ray getting sucked into the machine with the grenades. He had been chosen as the next victim to become fuel for the aliens.

The people were fuel? I thought they were turning people into fertilizer... or were just covering the land with bodyparts and blood to put more fears into the humans.

yeah that was pretty strange.

though one possible explaination that I can think of is maybe they were waiting for earth's ecosystem to run so that there was enough quality "meat" around to fertilize their plants and power their machines.

maybe they took out the dinasaurs :Q

I liked it... good acting, A+ special effects, and there was a nice buildup at the start with the lightning storms and the tripod coming out of the ground where Cruise's character lives. I thought that was a good sequence.

Ending seemed kind of rushed, and a little cheezy, with Cruise's son showing up (how the fvck did he survive that) and the tripods really being defeated quickly. Obviously the humans win but I just thought it happened fast.

I'd give it a 7/10.

AGGGHHHH... this is quite annoying... People have no cinematic sence... This movie was simply amazing... I love filmmaking and directing and i can say that this was one VERY well directed movie by Steven... First "3rd encounters of the third kind" and now this!!!

I hate when people say that it is unbelievable!?!? ITS A MOVIE ABOUT FVCKING ALIENS!!!!!!!! The movie was supposed to be unrealistic... Since when are giant robots burried under ground and aliens come to kill us all??

The special effects were simply amazing as well... And the acting was great too... That Dakota Fanning might be a 30 year old in a childs body!

Ok, what is up with people saying the ending was bad? Im not going to give away but... It is very logical...

PS - If you havent seen it, go SEEEEE ITT!!!! Its great in every aspect of cinema... Oh and the shots are VERY well done... The cinematography is great!!

Oh, and youll see a scene just like a scene in Jurrasic Park

Well... maybe that these aliens were destroying small towns and country farms, but leave a city like Boston alone? Alone enough that the house and neighborhood is standing and everybody is alright. And the kid that survived... please.

I read a review of the movie on Yahoo Movies before seeing it. It basically said that the movie was very good until it went "all A.I. on us".

That guy hit the nail on the head...

the pods were supposedly buried millions of years ago. they also move very slowly. it's entirely conceivable that there were no pods near boston and other pods hadn't reached it before the pilots started dying.

as for the kid, if tom cruise survived something like that, why not the kid? it's a minor point anyway.

"ITS A MOVIE ABOUT FVCKING ALIENS!!!!!!!! The movie was supposed to be unrealistic... Since "

Are you kidding me? This story, in radio format, led people to try and KILL THEMSELVES. People were showing up at hospitals in droves. Of course it's supposed to be realistic, or else they would not have spend tens of millions on special effects.

the ending was dragged out and turned a little too 'family love abc family special everyone hug now!". but i thought the special effects were amazing and well paced/done. Was it a perfect movie ? no, but is it one i'm glad i saw in theaters? yea.

I saw War of the Worlds last weekend. I was very impressed. Very good movie. You know how bad movies seem to drag on, you look at your watch, wonder when it'll be over, etc. Well, this was nothing like that. It flew by kinda fast, mostly because I wasn't bored at all.

All in all, if you like sci-fi movies, you'll like this one.

And as others said, the ending was a bit out of place and not described well. Could have been a better ending.
