War in downtown Toronto....

The story was reported quite fairly I thought. No mention at all of the evil police state arresting citizens at will.

Yeah, some of the comments are hyper left-wing, but those are comments and have nothing to do with the CBC as an organization. And this has already been mentioned in the thread by other posters. Pretty balanced, slightly left-of-center reporting, very left wing comments by the public.

Their submission guidelines basically say: "Don't be racist/sexist, don't swear, and don't post porno."
I can agree with that.

The police incompetence is simply mind boggling. Let's review.

- A billion fucking dollars spent
- a massive number of cops on the street in the days before.
- a ridiculous show-of-force on Friday (I saw full riot gear cops assembled against a small crowd of people dancing behind a truck with huge speaker in the bed)
- using horses to disperse peaceful protesters from the designated protest zone, while a small band troublemakers smash windows and set cars on fire
- (today) starting to arrest anybody that even looks at them wrong.

Overall, quite pathetic.

Security reasons? 20 World Leaders on 1 boat?

I understand protesting. I don't understand the people that go with the intention of creating violence. I also don't understand spending $1 Billion on one or 2 meetings (G8 + G20). Way to go "conservatives".

Stupid is as stupid says

Absolute fucking piss off. Just came back from New York (didn't really like it), and see the city raped.

Walked down Yonge from Dundas up, and IIRC, only the HMV was boarded up Friday evening. About 20 other stores were now boarded, and from what I hear, they were shit canned. The American Apparel got a bag of shit thrown in after assholes broke the windows. The Bell store close to College got completely trashed; apparently people went in and stole or trashed the cell phones ($500 says those retards all own Blackberries).

Sounds like they arrested a bunch of these retards this morning in the U of T campus. Too bad they'll all be out within a week.

It's more Harper's incompetence for picking downtown Toronto that necessitated the $1b security bill. Having it out in the middle of nowhere would have been much more sensible.

I think the cops have done a decent job. Remember, their primary job is to protect the G20 and they are doing that. Running down the hooligans... well they are arresting a lot of people, but when there are that many, it's kind of hard.

There may be mistakes being made, but at least it's not a repeat of APEC in Vancouver in 1997. The police have evolved since then, but the protesters have devolved.

Since they can't stop the ~50 (out of ~10000) people who actually cause trouble, they start doing shit like this to try and mask their incompetence. And this shit is after 1 billion dollars and months of prep.

The Big Picture - G20 Protests in Toronto

Fucking jackasses, should just gas them and throw them in a hole and fuck Harper for even allowing the stupid summit here in the first place.

I'm all for protest and even violent protest in certain situations, but so many of these idiots are not even really protesting, but are just using this as an excuse to smash things (there was some of it during the Olympics here and it was blatantly obvious) and shit-disturb.

Makes me so angry.

no, the tea party want people left alone. the g20 types are the types that "know" whats best for everyone else. the types that are insane busy bodies if they ever get into power and wreck sh*t. instead of working for solutions themselves, whether it be environmental or aid, they tend to try to force others to deliver on their wishful thinking. "highly educated" liberal arts folks, who push conspiracies and other nonsense...theres plenty of irrationality in that crowd.

yes, the tea partiers and other fundies also know what's best for your body.
so never fear those who claim financial freedom while taking away all your personal freedoms, right?

hypocrisy exists everywhere. It takes an informed individual to see it for what it is.

MLK?
The Republican?

you seem to have a hard-on against progressivism as if it is some grand evil, and that these vandals are somehow linked to any type of progressive movement.

I'm pointing out that you are a blind idiot.

It's not that difficult to parse through the simplest of points, you know.
