wanting to upgrade

my system is a 2.4c @ 2.8 p4
albatron mobo
350w psu enermax
2x256ram hyper x 3500
9800 pro @ 415/360

wanting to upgrade but unsure what would be better. how much faster is the 6800NU than the 9800 pro and the same for the 6600GT. ive heard about 6800NU's being softmoddable, can someone explain this? if true how easy is it to obtain one, is it as hard to get them like the L-shaped 9500NP's were?

out of the two(6600GT and 6800NU) which would be the better upgrade?
would i need a bigger psu?
and would my 2.8 p4 bottle neck either one?

thx

not "much" faster . . .. kinda like upgrading from a 9700p to a 9800xt . . . . the 6800 is faster than the 6600 . . . .

"search" here for a current (long) thread on softmodding the 6800 standard . . . . IF it works it IS worthwhile. ;)

the most worthwhile upgrade for a 9800p - i.e. bang-4-buck - is a 6800GT; none of these should be a significant bottleneck for your CPU (you might try o/c'ing further)

WHY do you want to upgrade? What res do you run games at?

Please note - a NEW core - r520 is out in a few months that should be significantly faster than the current cards. At the least the current cards will drop steeply in price. ;)

I just made this move yesterday. Best Buy has a deal going this week, check the Hot Deals forum. Otherwise Outpost is the next best deal.

Anyway, there is an obvious improvement when playing. I am only playing World of Warcraft at the moment, but I can now turn on almost all of the graphics details to high with no problems. I also noticed in 3DMark 05 that the FPS went from about 4 or 5 on my 9800 Pro to around 15ish on the 6800oc. I didn't go all the way through for a final score though because it was cutting into my WoW time. ;)

Don't bother upgrading to a 6800NU from a 9800pro. You'll be able to last well into the next generation of cards with the 9800pro... and by then you may want to make a larger, more significant upgrade.

Dont make the same mistake as i did and not upgrade your power supply while buying yourself a new card. I bought an 6800 ultra and I only have a 350 p/s and that thing just suck me dry. Comp shutdown and stuff so I bought a new supply and now everything is AWESEOME.

Still, it's recommended to use Driver Cleaner when swapping video cards, especially between nVidia and ATI. Here's how it goes:
-Use the Add/remove programs to uninstall your current drivers
-Go to Safe mode and run Driver Cleaner (www.driverheaven.net) then shutdown your system
-Swap your video cards
-Install nVidia drivers and restart
That's it!
