Wanting to upgrade my Barton to a P4 rig

slag

Lifer
I currently have a barton core 2500+ at 2300 mhz with 512 mb of kingston pc3500 ram on an Abit NF7-S 2.0 motherboard.

I have a guy here at work who is interested in purchasing all 3 components and then I would upgrade from there.

I want to go back to P4. What is the best processor/motherboard combo which will allow good overclocking and take me up somewhere around 3.2-3.4 ghz or so?

i hadnt read that review, thanks.

I pretty much decided today to switch back to intel.. Not because of stability or anything, I just dont think my 2300 mhz processor can run with the big dogs at intel.

Whats a good price to ask my coworker for my stuff?

I was thinking $260.00 for all of it.

Does this seem fair? I've used it for 3 months.

Are you keeping the ram? I would just keep it if I were you. I sold my 2500+, modified NF7-S (better NB and SB heatsinks) and 8045 + L1a to a friend @ work for $170. That's a bit under newegg's price for the CPU/MB, but the cooling was worth it to him since he wanted a silent computer. Since you have a higher overclock than most (2300mhz) you could probably fetch a touch more than retail.

The 2.4C m0 stepping is hot these days, but a bit pricey: over $200. The 2.6C isn't quite as hot, but you could still get good results, and it's cheaper @ $175. (I didn't 🙁). I'd go with the IS7 for budget reasons.

FWIW, I'm @ 3.0GHz on my P4 and it doesn't really feel much different than the Barton. I kinda wish I'd stuck with my old setup, and I wasn't even @ 2.2! Don't forget to budget for a good soundcard! The onboard sound on all Intel motherboards blows!
