Hi,

I currently have a 2.53 ghz p4 533mhz bus processor and I was one of the lucky people who was able to get the Intel 3.0ghz $199 package with the processor, motherboard and windows xp but I want to sell the intel mobo and get the Abit IC7-G Max3. I was wondering if my current Thermalright SLK900U heatsink will fit in this motherboard because it looks like there might be a clearance problem with the OTES cooling system and I was wondering what kind of RAM woudl work best. I have 2x512mb PC2700 RAM so it looks like I'm going to have to EBay it and get something faster. I've read reviews on Corsair XMS memory as well as Geil which is a good value but which one is good for the money and should I go with PC3500, PC4000, etc.?

Go Asus P4C800-E, at least they're running stable. IC7-Max3 has voltage stability issues 2.85V and above, kinda defeats the purpose of buying it (OTES cooling isn't worth the extra $$$$ in my opinion).

If you're oc'ing a P4 3.0Ghz, I'd get some fast timing PC3500. No point in getting PC4000, your FSB won't even get close to maxing out the RAM. OCZ PC3500 Platinum got a damn good review.

Thanks for the suggestions, how's hyperX memory from Kingston and Geil and Corsair XMS? I built my own computer a few months ago but not too sure which brands are good, and what these 2-2-3-6 or whatever numbers mean. I currently have a Plextor CDRW and Samsung 8x dvd as well as 2 IDE hard drives. I'm looking to get another drive, a Pioneer DVD burner, and I'm wondering how I can attach all these peripherals to my new motherboard. From your suggestion, I think i'm going with Asus, and I trust Asus anyways, I just thought the Abit was a better motherboard for overclocking. Also, with everything that I have right now, do I have to reinstall the OS when I install my new P4 Chip and motherboard?
