Thinking for the money I want to spend will get a HD 4770 but seems those things keep disappearing and reappearing randomly, will they only be on ebay once they all get EOL'd? Have some 3 year old Acer Apire T180 and only things i've ever done to it was add a second HDD and some extra ram. Only want to be able to play Tales of Monkey Island games, LotRO, AoC, and some source games at a decent setting not even maxxed out. Will it be able to do this with the HD 4770?

Going to also buy one these PSUs most likely:

Figured the PSU which came with the PC isn't powerful enough and might just try to move it to an older PC that seems to have a dead PSU in it now.

Good to buy shortly after x-mas or wait till 2010 comes in?

You could do better than ThermalTake PSUs, but if price is a concern, they will work.

I would go for Thermaltake TR2 W0379RU, it's a newer model, and the 12V specs are much improved over the other one. It also has both a 6-pin PCI-E and a 6+2-pin PCI-E. The other one only has a single 6-pin PCI-E, and 12V rails that are much weaker.

Googling for "exploding power supply" and those Thermaltake models didn't produce any hits, so you could be OK. Reviews are rather lacking. The first looks much more capable than the second, though.

Might want to post this in the PSU forum, more knowledgeable people would know the manufacturer of those PSUs and their likely capabilities. If rated honestly and built well the specs on the first PSU should handle a 5850 no problem.
