Why did you reply to the thread then?

I recommend Jurassic 5, Deltron 3030 (definately check this out if only one), Del the Funkee Homosapien, and Hieroglyphics. I don't listen to much hip-hop/rap (what's the difference anyway?) but I like these, maybe you will too.

I wouldn't consider Wu-Tang to be hip-hop. Rap would be more fitting.

It may be difficult at times to distinguish between rap and hip-hop for the lay person. I think the best way to tell the difference is that rap is more gritty and realist, while hip-hop is more feel-good and contrived.

Its basically a line drawn by "elitest" rap buffs that help them differentiate themselves from the masses that listen to Nelly. Some say its the separation between mainstream (rap) and underground (hip-hop), but that's basically a load of crap.

I like ATLien247's definition. Rap tends to put more emphasis on the spoken verse with a gritty sound. Hip-hop usually has a lighter sound with storytelling and the occasional singing.

Do you even know what techno is?

I'll wager $100,000 that you don't.

I bet you know what the overall dance genre is. Based in your ignorant first post, I highly, highly doubt you could pick out a techno song from a house song from a trance song from a breakbeat song from a freestyle song...etc.

I'd bet you couldn't either, Deeko... at least, not 100% of the time. I'm not saying that electronica is all the same, but you have to admit that all these different types (not even genres) of music are more similar than they are different. It's just the artists and their fans trying to make themselves out to be different and original.

I dont like that whole genre becasue TO ME, it sounds very similiar (repetitive beats for 10-15 minutes and calling it a track), sure i am no expert on the field of this "techno", but thats the impression i got when i listened to a few tracks a roomate of mine had. surely enough when i bad mouthed it then, he got offended and defensive. again this is my opinion of course, dont wanna offend you if you like the music....

Often times the lines are hard to see. However, I usually can spot techno when I hear it...because it is the one dance genre I can't stand.

bauhahaha, yes it's all beats for 10 minutes.....

still lmao.

That's like basing your ENTIRE OPINION of rap and hip hop based on the two 50 cent songs your roommate played
or ALL of classical music based on the track your roomate played from some star wars soundtrack

here, let me paraphrase...

you're an idiot. 🙂

REMEMBER EVERYBODY, THESE SONGS ARE NOTHING BUT THE SAME LOOP REPEATED:

DJ Tiësto - In My Memory Remixes - 01 - In My Memory (Gabriel & Dresden Elephant Memory Vocal)
DJ Tiësto - In My Memory - 02 - Close To You (feat. Jan Johnston)
Sarah McLachlan - Remixed - 05 - Silence (DJ Tiësto's in Search of Sunrise Remix)
Paul van Dyk - Out There and Back (Disc 2) - 06 - Paul Van Dyk - Tell Me Why (Club Mix).mp3

ah hell, why did i bother listing tracks? According to brunswickite, heard one EDM song, heard 'em all.

oh yeah, two (three?) words: the crystal method. 😀

What about some older stuff like De La Soul, KRS-One, or A Tribe Called Quest? All well worth checking out if you haven't already.

Some of DJ Krush's stuff could almost qualify as hip-hop. "Zen" and "Meiso" in particular.

a tribe called quest is still the best hip hop around, IMO.
de la soul and jurassic 5 are good too.

aceyalone is probably the best rapper in action today. he's on tour with prince paul now, a show that shouldn't be missed.

I think its generally a good policy not to listen to any groups that have misspellings in their names.
