I'm leaving this evening to St. Paul (I'll be there through Sunday) for a little trip with my fiancee. Does anyone have suggestions of some good restaurants?

I'm open to anything non-seafood.

We perfer spicy flavorful food. I like ethnic food that I can't get in my small home city. My Fiancee perfers old houses renovated into restaurants with lots of character (something like Forepaugh's but we really aren't French food fans).

Moderate price (up to $30/person).

Thanks.

Bellanottes - Downtown Minneapolis, near the target center.

Amazing food. Might be above the price your shooting for though unfortunately. But if you can, please do it.

The pasta factory is an old renovated rubber plant near the metrodome (also downtown minneapolis) and it's pretty cool all the character they have in there, plus good food and about the price range your looking for.

Wild Fire in Eden Prairie is GREAT. I love their dishes....Mickeys Dinner in St Paul is good too, for breakfast or burgers. (its historic...in mighty ducks movies and a few other things).

You would probably love Chino Latino....Lake Street and Hennepin Ave.

My favorite place is called DeGidio's. Its Italian place right next to downtown St. Paul. Great for Lunch and Dinner and its about 8$/plate.

I'm actually having my wedding grooms dinner in their back room.

That is my favorite restaurant in the area. I've been there a half dozen times in years past. I will be there a half dozen times in years future. It was the first restaurant that had asian style food that I liked. Good suggestion though.

Bellanotte may be good. The photos look nice. We haven't had Italian since we got engaged in March in Italy. As long as we avoid the steaks, I don't think it'll be too expensive.

Hmm, "Horseradish Crusted Filet. OUR SPECIALTY! Wrapped in bacon and topped with a horseradish crust." That sounds good. What are the prices like? The online menu didn't say.

I'll look into Chino Latino in a bit.

I actually have not been to Chino Latinos (yet its only a few blocks from my house), its really popular for the youngish crowd "early twenties on up". I know a lot of people love there food too, its kind of an unkept secret of where it is.

there really is not a sign for the place, but they have a few advertisements around the cities...but like I said, Lake and Hennepin (Minneapolis) is where its at :)

Last time I went to Chino's I ordered an $8 beer instead of getting one of their $14 martini's and the waitress looked at me and said "Oh, you dont want to be fun tonight".

1. Caravan Serai - downtown St. Paul, IIRC - Afghani food...great food/ambience...if you want, you can get a table where you sit on the floor on pillows, etc.

2. The Tavern - at the Archer House in Northfield - a 30 minute drive down 35W, but it's worth it. The town is historic (supposedly has something to do with Jesse James), and there's an old renovated hotel where each room is decorated differently, etc. There's a quaint restaurant on the lower level called "The Tavern" which has a great variety of food...it's very cozy...lots of character. They make an awesome cajun burger.

3. Vina's - Vietnamese restaurant in Richfield (Nicolette Ave/60th Street or thereabouts)...kick booty...

I grew up in Minneapolis, but I moved to Alabama when I got married. I really miss the availability of good food. People here think The Olive Garden is exotic.

I use to live in Dean Court Isles, right off Lake Calhoun...

I bet we were practically neighbors :)
