I'm considering upgrading my current computer with the following components. I'm curious if anyone has some suggestions to cut costs without significantly decreasing the performance, or other components which might do the job better.. The only thing I'm firm on is I want a GeForce card (over Radeon) and I want Intel over AMD. So here's what I'm considering:

Motherboard: Asus P4S8X 648
Found it for $111

CPU: Pentium 4 2.4GHz 533MHz Northwood Socket 478 Processor w/Fan and Heatsink
Found it for $164

Video card: Chaintech GeForce4 Ti 4600 128mb TV-Out
Found it for $203

RAM: DDR PC2700 ? CL=2.5 ? Unbuffered ? Non-parity ? 6ns ? 2.5V ? 64Meg x 64
Found it for $83.99

TV Tuner: TV LEADTEK WINFAST "DELUXE" TV2000XP TV/FM MULTIMEDIA CARD
Found it for $56.99

HDD: Maxtor 120gb 7200 rpm 8mb cache
Found it for $109 after rebate + coupon

Total: $727.98

This is a little more than I want to spend, so I'm thinking of either waiting a bit or reconsidering some things. I'd be upgrading from my current system, which is an P3 1Ghz, 512mb PC133 RAM, 40gb 7200rpm Deskstar, GeForce2 Ti.. Is the performance increase I'd see worth the price? Talk amongst yourselves.. ;)

you'll definitely see an increase in performance. if the parts are a little more than what you're willing to spend, then sell your old computer in the FS/FT forum to make up for the difference :)

What brand RAM are you planning on getting?

The only change I would personally make would be to go for a Radeon 9700 PRO instead of the 4600, but you might not want to spend the extra $100.
