Besides making it different and giving you something then the same old thing to look and hear without having to go buy vista?

It is FREE and at the point of writing this had 5432 views which means it had pulled in quite a few people into anandtech, more so into the hot deals section. With Vista in my title it was featured in googles web search which means it probably brought in a ton of people off the internerd who have never heard of anandtech, and with good chances they liked what they saw offered to them as a community and hardware reviews, and joined up being a member, or at the very least gave them a new place to haunt till they made up their minds. But in the long run, something like this means more members for anandtech, more ads seen, more members, more ad revenue, and more money for Anand. I just wish sometimes Id be cut a share of the pie for bringing in new cattle to the ranch 😱

And honestly I have no idea if what I just dribbled out of my fingers is actually true or not, just pulled it straight out my ass 😀

I posted it mainly because it was free, I liked it, it worked for me, thought I would pass it to all my friends here at anadtech who most I wuv wit all my hart. That was my point for doing it 😉

Some would ask you the same thing of buying both a A1 and A2...and criticize for not going higher end...or picking BR.

The point is Vista sounds way better, the pointers are great. The windows look better.

I picked the vista sounds and pointers but I am running Luna Elements Black.

Royale Noir Remixed is another excellent theme based on XP Media Center only in black.

Some go even further and have a 'windows' that even a windows pro may have a hard time navigating being so different.

pretty much yea
gui is something you spend your time looking at all the time. might as well be pretty. if you don't install the extra applets its no performance hit at all either. nice hold over for some of us who don't feel like upgrading to vista until we have to buy a new pc. a nice free system refresh after 5+ years of looking at xp's original theme.

no, just the theme. transformation pack does come with little programs that add some of the thumbnail preview windows and such but i don't suggest installing them since they do add up to a performance hit. no 3d fx, and no transparencies unless you have some windowblinds or such theme programthat costs money, that comes with a performance hit as well so i don't suggest it.

Does this put the smart search bar in the start menu. That's the main thing I like about Vista, although I also like the sidebar gadgets they stole from OSX.

In general, it's a good idea to keep a spare drive with your entire windows installation backed up. Update it somewhat regularly. Then if something goes, you just recopy the partition. Keep your data on a separate partition and then you don't lose anything you really needed. That's what I do.

Installed and uninstalled with no problems for me....I only uninstalled b/c of problems using MSTSC. Great freebie!
