Want to upgrade the CPU in a BH6 Mobo

The PC I'm trying to upgrade currently, has a Celeron 300A cpu that is OC'ed to 450 stably, on an Abit BH6 v1.0 Mobo with the lastest Bios update.

Although it still runs pretty well, I think it's time for an upgrade. I'm looking at a Tbird combo right now, but still need to upgrade this PC, since I'll be giving it to a friend to use.

Can anyone suggest what my choices in a new CPU upgrade are? I've read that it can NOT take a coppermine CPU, so a slotkey kit upgrade of some kind may be necessary. However, I have no experience with Slotkey/Slotkets. =\

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Well, I've got an Abit BH6 v1.0 Mobo as well. I just finished putting in a Pentium® III 800 100MHz BUS, FC-PGA COPPERMINE with an Iwill Slocket II adapter and it runs great! I even set the bus to 112 and it's running great @ 896 mhz. :)

I have a BH6 1.01 and started w a 350 @ 400, then a 366 @ 550, and I just got a Celeron 633 from Compuwiz that does 950 with a GORB. Great value, no problems, Gotta love the BH6!

>Get the P3 700E(SL45Y)stock HSF with the MSI or IWill slocket and overclock it to 933 :) you'll also need PC133 Ram and a Geforce 2 MX or better video card to reach 133FSB.
>Make sure you have the board flashed to SS and you'll be fine. :)

well,

i plan on doing everything you listed...

2 problems though....

wouldn't an overclocked geforce ddr work???

cause that's what i got..:D

and i just ordered 2 sticks of pc133 c-2 from crucial.... but there's 1 remaining stick of pc100 in there i think= should i dismiss the pc100 all together and just use the 2 new sticks of 133 wasting away the 100????

thanks....

Or get a Celeron II and you won't have any FSB issues. 600/633's are pretty good bets for 900+. Grab a MSI Master & Celeron II for less than $100 shipped at Onvia. Flash your BIOS to SS and see what ya get.

>When you order the P3 700E call to make sure the box reads SL45Y .It comes with the stock HSF which will be fine @933
>Buy the MSI or IWILL slocket
>Use only your PC133 :) sell the PC100
>When installing your Ram. Install the Ram in the First and third slot only.
>Your Geforce is fine :)

passign, I do have version 1.0 of the BH6. Don't listen to Abit's website. True, the board doesn't "officially" support higher than a 600, but with a FC-PGA to Slot 1 adapter you should be fine all the way up to a 1 Ghz P3.

no1special, how come only "sometimes" at 896? That's where mine stays all the time. I've still got PC-66 memory too! :)
